The leading construction company NCC will renovate and modernize the Avicii Arena (Stockholm Globe Arena) in Stockholm, Sweden.

‘NCC’ stated that the above assignment is a turnkey contract in collaboration with the Stockholm Globe Arena Fastigheter AB (SGA Fastigheter), wholly-owned by the City of Stockholm.

Solna, Stockholm (Sweden)-based NCC is one of the leading construction companies in the Nordics. An expert in managing complex construction projects, the NCC style of construction has a positive impact on its customers and on the development of the society in general. The business includes construction and infrastructure projects, production of asphalt and stone materials as well as commercial property development. In 2022, the NCC had a turnover of circa SEK 54 billion and has 12,500 employees.

The Nordic countries are a geographical and cultural region in Northern Europe and the North Atlantic. It includes the sovereign States of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, the autonomous territories of the Faroe Islands and Greenland, and the autonomous region of Åland.

The 16,000-capacity Avicii Arena, originally known as the Stockholm Globe Arena and previously as Ericsson Globe, but commonly referred to in Swedish simply as Globen, is an indoor arena located in the Stockholm Globe City in the Johanneshov District of Stockholm, Sweden.

The Stockholm Globe Arena Fastigheter (SGA Fastigheter) is a real estate company owned by the Stockholm Municipality through Stockholms Stadshus AB (company).

‘NCC’ further stated that the Stockholm Globe Arena was inaugurated in 1989, one of Sweden’s most visited event arenas. It was NCC that built the arena, to which in 2010 was added the SkyView glass gondolas. Two years ago, the Stockholm Globe Arena was named the Avicii Arena. The NCC will now renovate and modernize the arena.

Maintained Mats Viker, head honcho, SGA Fastigheter, “The SGA Real Estate has been drawing up plans for several years to make the Avicii Arena avant-garde within the guidelines laid down by the Stockholm City Council. International consultants have been cherry-picked from Europe to work on the redevelopment of the venue in tandem with the NCC to ensure that the iconic arena continues to remain at the top of the heap.”

The NCC’s mission includes renovation and modernization of the arena. The NCC will also build new gondola lounges and a new structure, a ring, above the arena’s equator. Among other things, a new rig and a structure for movable panels have been built from the ring structure.

Observed Henrik Landelius, Business Area Manager, NCC Building, Sweden, “Upgrading a complex building like the Avicii Arena is no mean task and will have to be carried out with utmost caution. We will not tamper with the pristine sheen of the structure.”

The Avicii Arena stands out in the Stockholm skyline. The City Museum in Stockholm has categorized it as a valuable property that has “high cultural and historical values”. The SGA Fastigheter, together with the NCC, has collaborated with an international design team to make the arena state-of-the-art.

The renovation work is expected to be over by the beginning of 2025 and the revamp price tag stands at circa SEK 700 million.
