The LaLiga club RCD Mallorca has made digital strides in the form of striking a deal with the telecommunications company Telefónica and the multinational conglomerate company LG and the top-flight will get digital and audiovisual teeth in their home pitch – the redecorated Estadi Mallorca Son Moix in Balearic Islands, Spain.

‘RCD Mallorca’ stated that the above deal has been struck for three seasons and makes the Spanish telecommunications company the tech partner of RCD Mallorca and will prove to be a catalyst in the tech growth of the club in the areas of innovation, digitization, security, audiovisual, and providing fans an enriching experience. The agreement with LG will also remain for two seasons and LG too will be a tech partner of the top-flight.

The Real Club Deportivo Mallorca, S.A.D., commonly known as Real Mallorca or just Mallorca is a Spanish professional football club based in Palma on the island of Mallorca in the Balearic Islands (Spain). It plays in LaLiga, the men’s top professional football division of the Spanish football league system.

The 23,142-capacity Mallorca Son Moix Stadium is a football stadium located in Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, and serves as the home ground of RCD Mallorca. It is the largest stadium in the Balearic Islands and the 26th largest in Spain.

The Telefónica, S.A. is a Spanish multinational telecommunications company headquartered in Madrid, Spain. It is one of the largest telephone operators and mobile network providers in the world. It provides fixed and mobile telephony, broadband and subscription television, operating in Europe and the Americas.

Seoul, South Korea-based LG is a multinational conglomerate company providing a wide range of electronic, telecommunications and chemical products.

‘RCD Mallorca’ further stated that the remodeled Estadi Mallorca Son Moix will boast two large video scoreboards, one at the North end and the other at the South end, in addition to an ambitious air conditioning project and the installation of monitors throughout the stadium.

Video Scoreboards

Two huge video scoreboards with excellent image quality will be installed on the North and South ends of the venue. The bigger one of the two is 22m wide and 7m high, making it one of the biggest in Spain. The second videoboard will also boast an impressive size of 13m wide and 7m high.

These 10.41mm pitch LED video scoreboards boast brightness of 7,000 nits and will make viewing an enjoyable experience from any point of the venue. Apart from the brightness, its super high refresh rate of 3840Hz stands out and is not a strain on the eyes as it eliminates flicker and is perfect for viewing even through television cameras.

Screens Galore

LG, technology and market leader in image, will also install televisions and monitors throughout the facility to complete the viewing experience of all RCD Mallorca fans. In total, there will be more than 200 screens from 43” to 98”, to be put up both in the common areas and the boxes. The screens feature advanced imaging technology that delivers sharp, vivid and accurate color expression.

Some of these screens are tactile and will allow direct interaction with those attending the matches. Digital signage specially designed for the outdoors will also be installed, allowing content to be enjoyed even if the lighting arrangement is not up to the desired level.

Asserted Alfonso Díaz, Business head honcho of RCD Mallorca, “For RCD Mallorca, this agreement means associating with two large technology companies, each one a leader in its respective field and with significant international reach. The above agreement means accelerating the club’s growth process at the technological and digital level and instilling a sense of confidence by attracting large international firms to join our project and turn RCD Mallorca into a benchmark club.”

Added Javier Vizcaíno, Head of the SMEs area at Telefónica Spain, “With the above agreement, Telefónica will become RCD Mallorca’s strategic partner and will assist in the club’s digital growth, thus enhancing the fan experience at the redeveloped Estadi Mallorca Son Moix. Telefónica has extensive experience developing technological solutions and has helped in the digital growth of thousands of companies across different sectors, and this will allow us to help the club provide the best services to its members and fans.”

Exulted Jaime de Jaraíz Lozano, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LG Spain, “LG is thrilled to work with RCD Mallorca and to make available the best-of-breed tech services for all ‘The Vermilion’ fans. We understand that innovation only makes sense if it provides people quality life, and this project will elevate the experience of all those who come to the arena and the spectators will truly enjoy an immersive experience next season.”
