The Major League Soccer (MLS) team – the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) – is teaming up with the computer vision technology company Wicket to introduce BMO Stadium Express, a state-of-the-art facial authentication technology for ticketing and concessions at the LAFC home ground – the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California (US) – streamlining access and transactions for a best-in-class fan experience.

‘Los Angeles Football Club’ stated that this innovative partnership reinforces the LAFC’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance every aspect of gameday.

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) is an American professional soccer club based in Los Angeles. The club competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference.

The 22,000-capacity BMO Stadium (formerly the Banc of California Stadium) is a soccer-specific stadium in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California (US). It is the home of the Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC.

Wicket is a computer vision technology company with offices in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Wicket develops and delivers software products that enable a sensational event experience for some of the largest sports and credentialed venues in the United States. With a portfolio of issued and pending patents Wicket’s Facial Authentication platform includes products for facial ticketing, credentialing, access control, and payments.

‘Los Angeles Football Club’ further stated that the LAFC fans now have the option to use their face as their ticket and payment method eliminating the need to pull out your phone or wallet. This frictionless entry and purchasing process significantly reduces wait times allowing the fans to spend more time enjoying the match.

Commented Christian Lau, LAFC Chief Technology Officer, “At LAFC we are committed to redefining the live sports experience through advanced technology. By integrating Wicket’s best-in-class facial authentication technology we’re making it easier than ever for the fans to get to their seats and enjoy the game.”

The fans can register in advance through Wicket’s secure enrollment portal or onsite at the BMO Stadium and experience BMO Stadium Express at the dedicated stadium entry points and concession stands. To support adoption the LAFC will launch a comprehensive educational campaign including in-app notifications, stadium signage and a dedicated landing page with FAQs and a walkthrough video.

Added Alastair Partington, Wicket head honcho, “We’re proud to partner with the LAFC to improve ticketing and concessions with facial authentication. The BMO Stadium Express demonstrates how thoughtful use of technology can genuinely improve the fan experience –making it simpler, faster and more seamless. It’s been a pleasure collaborating with a club so committed to innovation.”
