Jose Luis Acebo who works for HPE Aruba in the United States says that the HPE modus operandi is to connect, protect, analyze, and also act on all of the data that has been generated in between the edge and the cloud, in between how the people and the things are connected and where the applications reside.

Acebo leads the Hospitality, Sports and Entertainment Practice for Latin America and resides in Orlando, Florida (US). He thrives in the digital world and focuses on providing solutions and addressing the scale and demand of the most mission-critical environments.

Jose Luis Acebo is a seasoned Telecommunications Engineer with a Master’s degree in Telematics and over 20 years of experience in technology projects particularly in the Latin America Region. Acebo specializes in the hospitality, sports and entertainment industries. He drives innovative solutions that enhance the customer experiences and operational efficiency.

In a tech talk with ‘Coliseum’ Jose Luis Acebo, Business Development Manager, Hospitality, Sports & Entertainment, HPE Aruba, US, presents a case study of the Chase Center in San Francisco, California (US) where he narrates that the HPE Aruba Networking armed the venue with a Wi-Fi 6E network, the first of its kind in North America for a major live entertainment venue. This network enables a seamless and immersive fan experience with lightning-fast connectivity, realtime analytics for personalized experiences and enhanced security. The HPE Aruba Networking also helped the Chase Center create a contactless stadium experience further enriching the fan experience.

HPE Aruba Networking

San Jose (US)-based the HPE Aruba Networking designs and delivers Mobility-Defined Networks that empower a new generation of tech-savvy users.

Chase Center

The 18,064-capacity Chase Center is an indoor arena in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, California (US). It is the home of the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Jose Luis Acebo begins by stating “My favorite sport is baseball but today I am going to tell a little bit about basketball – the Chase Center of the NBA team Golden State Warriors. It is a multiuse space and they manage to operate more than 200 days in a year. And that is a lot. Most venues operate about 40-50 days in a year and that definitely has an impact on the revenue. The Chase Center’s main goal was to optimize and to create and to complete the whole fan journey.”

He added that once the fans are inside the Chase Center they can start using the technology as the HPE Aruba Networking has equipped the venue with Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 6 performance data leading to new insights into key deployment parameters – “The fans can use the QR to go in through the entrance. After that they can navigate from the door from where they are entering to the seat and then start consuming some services from the arena like in-seat ordering of food, making payments easily from the application and so on. If the content is right then the promos and marketing that technology part also makes sense.”

Acebo averred that to create a contactless experience for the fans in the Chase Center and to make it more convenient and safer also came with its set of challenges – “How do you ensure that this project is going to be scalable because we have some needs today but in the future those needs might grow and how do we prepare ourselves so that technology is going to help us to continue growing and most important how do you leverage all of the data that place is generating in order to make business actions and business inside. Prepare the venue for the massive events and how the venue is going to have revenue streams coming in all the time.”

He informed that the WiFi-6E has many advantages over Wi-Fi-6. It translates faster and better connection and even secure – “We also enable a lot of Internet of Things (IoTs) applications.”

Wrap-up

Jose Luis Acebo wrapped up his tech talk by asserting, “It is not about just technology, it’s about experience, expertise and sport. In this case when the fans are arriving at the venue they expect WiFi, they expect it to be free, of course, but it has to be sponsored by some way and we do it through advertisement and bringing in co-investment into the venue so this can make sense. We also deliver the cellular roaming and the WiFi offloading so when the people arrive into the stadium they have a cellular phone that is working great and they have unlimited access plan but once they are in the stadium with that crowded space the service is not that good. So, there are means to an end here so we can offload all the traffic and make the people receive a better experience.”

Technology is helping in the beginning of an immersive sports era and Jose Luis Acebo and his team at HPE Aruba does not want to deploy technology for the sake of deploying it but because it helps achieve a greater goal or objective. It is for this approach that the Chase Center’s Wi-Fi deployment already delivers a great connected fan experience.
