The overhauling work of the Chester Racecourse in UK – which ran into initial hiccups – is back on track. Plans for the £100 million redevelopment work have been approved. Chester Race Company will complete work in 2022.

Initially, Cheshire West and Chester councilors had nixed down the revamping plans citing that it could harm the view of the city.

The racecourse authorities spent a considerable amount of time addressing the key concerns raised by the Planning Committee when initially planning permission was turned down.

The updated plan submitted included two key buildings in the development proposals combined into a new Conference Centre and Grandstand. The buildings would overlook the racecourse and would be built adjacent to the Holiday Inn Express hotel.

The racecourse did away with its plan of building a multistory car park and to use Saddlery Way to access the Roodee on race days. A large public lawn would replace the Leverhulme Stand.

As part of the revised plan, the lawn will extend from the County Stand and keeping in mind the sustainability factor, open up views of the racecourse from Watergate and the City Walls.

The architects for the Racecourse McGuirkWatson informed that all car parking and ancillary buildings between the railway viaduct, Holiday Inn Express and the County Stand would be removed and a new pedestrian zone for the racegoers and the people will be introduced.
