The Belarusian National Football Stadium, a landmark project built with Chinese support, opened recently in Minsk with the President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko gracing the inauguration ceremony.

‘english.news.cn’ stated that addressing the gathering on the occasion Lukashenko thanked the Chinese leadership and the Chinese partners for helping to bring to fruition the above facility. He said the stadium mirrors both the Belarusian national traditions and advanced engineering technology.

As the largest and most modern football stadium in Belarus it meets the highest international standards. With a seating capacity of over 33,000 the stadium was constructed under a general contract arrangement by the Beijing Urban Construction Group.

The Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) is a large, international, comprehensive construction group headquartered in Beijing, China. It’s known for its expertise in general contracting, real estate development and design and consultancy services. The BUCG holds special-grade qualifications for general contracting of both housing and highway projects in China.

President Lukashenko stated that the above stadium has become another landmark building in Minsk and best demonstrates the bonhomie and warm ties between Belarus and China.

‘english.news.cn’ further stated that speaking on the occasion Zhang Jiasheng, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sport of China, remarked that the opening of the stadium is a major accomplishment on the part of China when it comes to the technical and economic assistance projects and also showcases the mutual trust between Belarus and China.

World-class Venue

Added Lukashenko, “The Belarusian people did not have to pay a cent for the stadium which measures up to FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) benchmarks. The arena also boasts a state-of-the-art swimming pool for major competitions. All of this is a gift from the Chinese people and their leader Xi Jinping, the President of China. It is a grandiose building. For our country this is a momentous occasion.”

He recounted how while on a visit to China he told Xi Jinping that he loves sports, especially football. The Chinese President then promised to Lukashenko that he would help them build a spiffy stadium which got materialized in the form of the above venue.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan as well as the West Asian countries of Cyprus, Armenia and Israel. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Since 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.
