The National Basketball Association (NBA) set records for total attendance, average attendance, percentage of capacity, and sellouts in the 2022-2023 regular seasons. A record 791 sellouts shattered the previous mark of 760 set during the 2018-2019 seasons, and arenas were filled to an all-time-high capacity of 97 percent.

‘NBA’ stated that the league’s total attendance mark of 22,234,502 broke the previous record of 22,124,559 set in the 2017-2018 seasons. This season marks only the second time in the NBA history that total attendance exceeded 22 million. For the first time, teams averaged more than 18,000 fans (18,077).

It is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada and is considered the premier men’s professional basketball league in the world.

The AT&T Play-In Tournament was officially adopted as a full-time part of the NBA playoff picture in 2022. A version of the Play-In Tournament has been in place since the 2020 NBA season restart, and the NBA’s Board of Governors approved its return for the 2021-2022 seasons as well.

The NBA playoffs are the postseason tournament of the National Basketball Association held to determine the league’s champion. An annual best-of-seven elimination tournament, the NBA playoffs are held after the league’s regular season and its preliminary postseason tournament, the NBA play-in tournament.
