The NBA’s LA Clippers have given a sneak peek at the double-sided halo display which will be a key feature of the new Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California.

The board, which was highlighted on YouTube, will feature approximately 38,375 square feet of digital canvas – that’s more than 3,592 60-inch televisions and more than 233 million LEDs.

The Clippers specifically designed and engineered the Intuit Dome roof to accommodate the unique Halo Board, optimizing sightlines from all seats and putting a priority on the viewing experience of upper-bowl seats.

The 18,000-capacity Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California (US) which is set to open its doors on August 15th, 2024, will be the home venue of the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Grammy Award-winner Bruno Mars will christen the dome with back-to-back shows, followed by Olivia Rodrigo. Usher will play the venue in September before the Clippers move in when the NBA season begins in October.

And fans will be wowed by the halo display which has been manufactured by Daktronics.

The inner halo display measures 32 feet high by 623 feet in circumference and the outer halo display measures 28 feet high by 661 feet in circumference, making the full halo proportionally more balanced than others.

The entire halo will be 4K and feature a tight 3.9-millimeter pixel layout. Designers have aimed to create a board that both educates and entertains fans.

The board also features fan engagement spaces with interactive games, social media feeds, and fan prompts.

By popular demand, it will also include a “Steve Cam”—a live feed of Steve Ballmer, the team’s owner and No. 1 fan, from his floor seat.

Ballmer said, “We can play games, we can have more fun, we can show more fans. People love seeing themselves up on the big board. Whether you’re a more dedicated, deep fan or a little less so, we have the ability to give you a different kind of experience.

“For the hardcore fan, we can light up more basketball-related things. We can show play flow so people really know what we’re running. We can light up statistics in new ways.

“We can show more replay angles simultaneously when a call is going to be disputed or a timeout is taken. It gives us the ability to engage the true basketball enthusiasts.”

The Halo Board is fitted with t-shirt cannons along the top and bottom, allowing them to target every seat in the house.

The on-board graphics will show Clippers players pointing at different sections and mimicking a throwing motion, so it feels like the player is launching the t-shirt himself.

In many arenas, at crucial times in the game when the home team could use a little home-court advantage, the scoreboard will feature a “noise meter” graphic, letting fans know it’s time to get loud.

Additional displays located inside and outside Intuit Dome will inform and connect with audiences as they arrive until they are seated for the main event.

Large lobby displays will engage with fans and a giant 23-foot-high by 190-foot-wide screen will overlook the outdoor basketball court on The Plaza.

Ribbon displays will be installed along seating fascia and inside seating bowl entrances, and courtside scorers tables and basket stanchion displays will also add to the game-day experience while offering opportunities to highlight sponsors throughout events.
