Coliseum – the top name in international stadium conferences – hosted the Coliseum Summit ASIA-PACIFIC in Beijing on May 15-16 with 224 delegates from 11 countries attending the event. This was Coliseum’s second successful conference in China.

The event saw 30 world-class speakers focusing on the myriad of challenges faced by the sports venue sector and also deliberate upon the possible solutions through their unique case studies and experiences.

The organizing committees of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games were among the plethora of Chinese agencies taking part in the two-day event.

Among the participating delegates, 52% represented stadiums, clubs or arenas while 48% represented architects, suppliers and consultants. About 42% of all the delegates were government representatives while 47% were executives and the remaining 11% marked themselves from other designations and job titles.

“The Chinese government is in the right direction. However, there is a strong need to open up the sports venue market for private and other third-party companies. Operation of stadiums and venues in China should not be restricted to the government alone,” was the overall tenor of the summit, summarizing the key take backs from the conference.

Talking about other outcomes of the event, the organizing committees of the 2022 Olympics and Asian Games as of now are focused on how to fill all the venues with event days.

They have proper and professional master planning in place, construction is up to date but a ‘Tottenham Stadium for China’ still remains a dream – and a big wish.

Other local sports bureaus and associations at the event included: Beijing Sports Bureau, Beijing Design Institute, Beijing University, Chengdu Sports Bureau, China Sports Venue Association, Foshan Nanhai Sports Bureau, Guangdong Gymnasium Association, Hebei Sports Bureau, Hebei Xinle Sports Bureau, Rizhao Sports Bureau, Jinan Olympic Sports Center, Shanghai Sports Bureau, Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, Sichuan Sports Stadium Association, Taizhou Sports Bureau, Tianhe Sports Center, Yulin Sports Bureau, Zhuhai Sports Bureau and others.

Some of the international participants at Coliseum Summit ASIA-PACIFIC included AFL, Drees & Sommer, Borussia Dortmund, Kuala Lumpur Sports City … and many more.

Participants got a unique ‘behind the scene’ experience through a venue tour of Olympic Green Tennis Center on May 16.

Coliseum is dedicated towards building the best global community of sports venue executives and professionals.

With yet another successful event under it arms, Coliseum is upbeat for its next ASIA-PACIFIC summit in China in 2020.
