The Louth GAA is set to proceed with plans for a new stadium in Dundalk (Ireland).

‘HS’ stated that the above comes after the recent news that a funding package between Louth and Croke Park has been agreed around the first phase of the development.

Reports are that work on the project is set to commence in the coming weeks.

The above venue will spur the growth of the Gaelic Games.

The Louth County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) or Louth GAA is one of the 32 County Boards of the GAA in Ireland and is responsible for the Gaelic games in County Louth.

Dublin (Ireland)-based the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organization focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball, and GAA rounders.

The 82,300-capacity Croke Park is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke it is referred to as Croker by the GAA fans and the locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and the headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

‘HS’ further stated that a statement posted on the official Louth GAA website read, “The Louth GAA are delighted to announce that a comprehensive funding package has been agreed between the Louth GAA and the GAA Headquarters to commence development of Phase One of our new stadium in Dundalk. The new facility represents a significant milestone for the GAA in County Louth and will provide a modern, purpose-built venue that will serve the needs of the players (men and women), the supporters and the wider community for generations to come.”

The statement further read, “Project Details: The construction period is expected to last approximately 16 months with the stadium ready to host games with an initial capacity of approximately 6,000 spectators upon completion of Phase One. We are delighted to have local Contractor in Ganson Group partnered with us on this contract.”

Dublin (Ireland)-based the Ganson Group was set up by Paul Mc Quaid and David Rogers, both qualified Civil Engineers, in 2003 in Balbriggan, County Dublin. They have successfully developed a committed and experienced team with expertise in all aspects of interior fit-out and project management for both new and refurbishment projects.

The statement added, “The Phase One development will include:

  • South-seated stand (4,080 seats);
  • Full-size playing pitch built to the highest standards;
  • Modern floodlighting system;
  • East and West standing sections behind both goals;
  • Car parking; and
  • Auxiliary building for the essential facilities.”

The statement concluded, “Development of Phase Two will commence as funding allows featuring the North standing terrace which will further enhance the stadium’s capacity and facilities.”

Stated Sean McClean, Louth GAA Chairperson, “This is a momentous day for the ALL Gaelic Games (a set of sports played worldwide though they are particularly popular in Ireland where they originated) in County Louth. After years of planning and preparation we are thrilled to secure the necessary funding to begin construction on this state-of-the-art facility. We express our sincere gratitude to the GAA Headquarters and all our clubs within Louth GAA for their unwavering support in bringing this project to fruition. This new stadium will not only provide an excellent home for the Louth County and the club teams but will also serve as a hub for community activities and foster the continued growth of Gaelic Games in the region.”
