The Stade de France’s attendance record was smashed recently when French rapper Jul took to the stage at the French national stadium.

France 24 said 97,816 people packed the venue that also hosted the 2023 Rugby World Cup final and the 2024 Olympics closing ceremony for one of the biggest music events of 2025.

Marseille-based rapper Jul, 35, who has released some 30 albums in his career, beat the previous record held by the rock group Indochine whose May 2022 concert was heard by 97,036 fans in the stadium.

The Stade de France is the national stadium of France located just North of Paris in the commune of Saint-Denis.

Its seating capacity of 80,698 makes it the largest stadium in France. The stadium is used by the French national football and rugby union teams for international competitions, as well as concerts.

Jul, whose real name is Julien Mari, said on X in response to the record being broken, “Historic record… we and the team made it together.”

Besides Jul’s popularity, the record can be explained by “the stage design, the available floor space, and the stadium’s layout”, said Stade de France.

Tickets sold out in minutes when put on sale last year for the Paris and subsequent Marseille concerts by Jul, the most-streamed artist in France in 2024 on Spotify.

Meanwhile, GL Events has been officially designated as the “likely holder” to take over the management of the iconic venue.

This recent decision marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing negotiations between GL Events and the French State, which have been underway since late 2024.

The current concession, managed by the Vinci-Bouygues consortium since 1995, concluded on May 5, 2025, paving the way for GL Events to assume control starting from early August 2025.
