The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (province in Pakistan) Mahmood Khan recently inaugurated the newly constructed international standard 10,000-capacity Hayatabad Cricket Stadium in Peshawar, Pakistan, recently which can now hold Pakistan Super League (PSL-8) or any of the international cricket matches.

‘PakistanToday’ stated that the Provincial Minister Finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash, Minister for Social Welfare Anwar Zeb, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Atif Khan, Members of the Provincial Assembly, Secretary Sports Captain (Retired) Mushtaq Ahmed, Project Director Colonel Bakhtiar, Deputy Project Director Colonel Akmal, Director General of Sports Khalid Khan, Director (Youth) Irfan Ali, Director Sports Merged Areas Pir Abdullah Shah, PCB Representative for KP Region Babar Khan and Administrator Hayatabad Sports Complex Shah Faisal, and other important dignitaries including prominent players were present on the occasion.

The Pakistan Super League (also known as PSL-8) is a franchise Twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015.

‘PakistanToday’ further stated that the Hayatabad Cricket Stadium was completed in time span of one year under the supervision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) at a cost of Rs 1 billion. The stadium is armed with futuristic facilities and PSL-8 and other international matches can be held in the facility.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is a sports governing body for cricket in Pakistan responsible for controlling and organizing all tours and matches undertaken by the Pakistan national cricket team.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the world governing body of cricket. Headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, its members are 108 national associations, with 12 Full Members and 96 Associate Members.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the only province in which 15 synthetic hockey turfs have been set up for the promotion of hockey, along with the construction of squash courts in all districts, synthetic courts for tennis, football grounds, 15 polo grounds, and work will soon start on building athletics tracks in Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, and Peshawar. To promote women’s game, a separate gymnasium armed with international standard facilities to promote indoor games for women is almost nearing completion as 95 percent construction work has been completed in all the divisional headquarters.

The Chief Minister informed that it is being ensured that women athletes of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region get a level playing field as they have shown their prowess both at the national and international level – “Separate gymnasiums have been set up for 151 sports disciplines for women from North Waziristan to the Chitral stretch that also includes 15 polo grounds to promote traditional and international standard polo games. We are now in a position to organize any national and international standard games with such avant-garde facilities.”

He said when he was the Minister of Sports, the grant made in the field of sports was to the tune of Rs 140 million while the current year’s Athlete Development Program (ADP) grant has been increased to Rs. 6.1 billion. Khan stated that the Hayatabad Cricket Stadium is one of the most beautiful stadiums in Pakistan, which comes armed with all cutting-edge facilities.

Khan asserted that with the above cricket arena getting off the ground, it will help in organizing international cricket games in the province. He said that an additional grant has already been approved for the upgrade works of the 35,000-capacity Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium in Peshawar and Rs 400 million has been granted for revamping the 7,000-capacity Niaz Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, Pakistan, and by June this year the upgrade work of the Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium will also be completed.

Ahmed informed that the above stadium was completed in record time notwithstanding the fact that major construction materials was imported from other countries of the world so that the venue could match up to the spiffy stadia which several nations boast today.
