Italian Serie A Empoli Football Club has been given the green light by municipal authorities to push ahead with a revamp of its Carlo Castellani Computer Gross Arena stadium.

Empoli said it is working to tweak the project after receiving feedback from the local authority, fans and the people of Empoli.

Empoli Football Club is an Italian professional football club based in Empoli, Tuscany (Italy) which plays in Serie A, the top of the Italian football league system.

The Carlo Castellani Computer Gross Arena Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Empoli, Italy. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home of Empoli F.C. The stadium holds 16,284 spectators.

The stadium reconfiguration project will be in the form of a public-private partnership (PPP) and work will be carried out over 36 months.

The upgraded venue will have a capacity to pack in 18,600 fans. The price tag of the revamp work stands at €45 million.

The athletic track will be removed to bring the stands closer to the pitch. Commercial spaces will be included in the design and the stadium makeover work will be done keeping the interests of the community in mind.

An auditorium will be constructed and a parking lot with over 1,300 parking spaces is a part of the grand design.

The venue will not only host sporting events but also entertainment shows. The above project will go on to benefit the entire neighborhood and will also help to generate jobs and will style up the area on which the venue sits.

Sustainability will take precedence in Empoli F.C.’s home venue spruce-up work and the design will be done with sustainability in mind.

The club said the next step in the process will be a meeting in the coming weeks, where the proposal will be discussed, taking into account the evaluations of the Municipal Administration and all the parties involved.

The redevelopment project of the city sports facility continues as hoped, following the stages dictated by the procedural process. The new stadium, as also stated by Mayor Alessio Mantellassi, represents an opportunity that the city cannot miss.

The club said, “We are working to transform the current structure into a functional, modern and highly sustainable work for the benefit of Empoli Football Club and the entire Empoli community.”
