SAD administrator Fernando Gomes recently stated that the naming rights deal of the Portuguese professional sports club FC Porto (Portugal) home field – Estádio do Dragão – will be struck in the near future.

‘PORTO canal’ stated that Gomes made the said announcement while presenting the FC Porto Report and Accounts for the 2021-2022 seasons recently.

Futebol Clube do Porto, commonly known as FC Porto or simply Porto, is a Portuguese professional sports club based in Porto (Portugal). It is best known for the professional football team playing in the Primeira Liga, the top flight of Portuguese football.

The Estádio do Dragão is an all-seater football stadium in Porto, Portugal, and the home ground of FC Porto since 2003. It has a seating capacity of 50,033, making it the third largest football stadium in Portugal.

‘PORTO canal’ quoted Gomes as stating that the Porto club is examining “New ways to increase advertising revenue and a naming rights partner just fits the bill. There are few proposals on the table and there is every likelihood that FC Porto will soon get a naming rights partner for its home digs which will help to keep our financial wheels well oiled. We almost had a naming rights deal in place pre-COVID but the deal fizzled out as COVID set the whole world ablaze in March 2020. It was undoubtedly a good deal but unfortunately it did not happen.”

The naming rights deal is a permanent phenomenon among the top-flight clubs in Europe. In early March this year, the LaLiga club FC Barcelona (Spain) reached an agreement with the Swedish audio streaming and media services provider Spotify to sponsor their home ground – which is now called the Spotify Camp Nou. The deal has been inked for 230 million euros for four seasons.

In the 2021-2022 seasons, advertising revenues were €25.92 million, up from €21.46 million in the 2019-2020 seasons and €22.855 million in the 2018-2019 seasons.
