The football district league club SC March has named its home ground after the world champion of 2014 – 27-year-old Matthias Ginter. From now on, the SC March’s home facility will be called – Matthias-Ginter-Sportpark.

The ‘Bild’ stated that the club had announced the name change on October 10th. Earlier, the club had gone for an advertisement blitzkrieg on the decision to name their home venue after the football great. The catchline went as such – ‘The Waldstadion is history. The ‘Matthias-Ginter-Sportpark’ is the future’.

Matthias Lukas Ginter is a German professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach and the Germany national team.

The ‘Bild’ further stated that Ginter was not present to bask in the glory at the ceremony held recently to name the stadium after him. He is presently practicing with Germany’s national team for next year’s FIFA football extravaganza in Qatar.

Ginter was with SC March for nearly seven years – from 1998 to 2005 he played on behalf of the youth team of the club. He then moved to the youth team of the Bundesliga club SC Freiburg. There was no looking back for him since then as he went on to join the ranks of the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund in 2014 and finally joined the Bundesliga team Borussia Mönchengladbach fold in 2017. So far, he has played 44 international matches for the national team.

The Germany national football team represents Germany in men’s international football and played its first match in 1908. The team is governed by the German Football Association, founded in 1900.

The 51,500-capacity Waldstadion, currently known as the Deutsche Bank Park for sponsorship purposes, and formerly known as the Commerzbank-Arena, is a retractable roof sports stadium in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany.
