Columbus in Ohio, US, will soon be home to an esports stadium.

‘NBC4i.com’ stated that the professional esports stadium company Glytch announced recently that it will build its second North American stadium and broadcasting studio in Ohio’s capital City Columbus. The 100,000-square-foot stadium will be one of 32 throughout the United States and Canada that the company hopes to build in the next seven years, with each being the official home of a professional esports team. Glytch is creating a range of hardware and accessories available to use within its venues.

Glytch is developing the Columbus stadium in partnership with The Buckeye Group (consultant in Columbus), celebrated design firm Populous and Scenario. The company hopes to break ground in 2023 and open the venue in 2024-2025. The venue will have seating for 2,000 attendees.

Irvine (California, US)-based Glytch combines esports arenas with location-based entertainment and upscale food and beverage. Each Glytch venue is the official home stadium of a major esports team.

Maintained Michael Williams, Chief Visionary Officer for Glytch, “Ohio has a booming esports fan base and we are proud to be serving the Buckeye State with a true, professional esports stadium. We firmly believe this is the next step in esports. Instead of hosting every major esports league and all the teams in Los Angeles, we believe in regional stadiums with local teams. We want everyone across the country to enjoy what this phenomenon has to offer.”

The above announcement comes as esports rises in popularity in Ohio. In February 2020, Microsoft tapped a Columbus-based esports company to manage “global esports efforts” for its Halo Infinite game. Budding interest has led to the opening of several gaming centers in the central Ohio region, including the Belong Gaming Arena at Polaris in Columbus.

‘NBC4i.com’ further stated that esports appeals to more than just Ohio spectators, too. Several Ohio colleges and universities have esports programs, including the Ohio University, Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati.

Glytch’s other stadium is in Los Angeles, US. Each venue will also serve as a space for concerts, comedy shows and other community events.

Glytch Expansion

‘ESPORTS INSIDER’ stated that throughout 2022, Glytch continues to expand as it embarks on building esports stadiums across the continent. In November, two new Board Members joined the company and in April, it inked a deal with global experiences company Legends where it becomes the exclusive operator of the stadiums.

‘ESPORTS INSIDER’ further stated that the trend of esports stadiums shows no signs of slowing down. In recent years, entertainment group Bad Boy Leroy has created the ‘world’s largest’ battle royale arena while the Brazilian organization MIBR has launched a virtual esports arena in partnership with metaverse company Everyrealm.
