The Premier League team Everton F.C. has announced that the Goodison Park in England (UK) will become the permanent home of the Everton Women team transforming English football’s first purpose-built ground into the most iconic venue in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

‘Everton Football Club’ stated that the above decision follows an in-depth review of the Goodison Legacy project by The Friedkin Group (TFG – a consortium of automotive, hospitality, entertainment, sports, and adventure companies based in Houston, US) since their takeover in December. The Goodison Legacy project was launched in 2020 to define the future of Goodison. After an in-depth review The Friedkin Group decided that football must be kept at the heart of Everton’s community.

The Everton Football Club is a professional association football club based in Liverpool, England (UK). The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

The Goodison Park is a football stadium in Walton, Liverpool, England (UK) that has been the home of the Premier League club Everton F.C. from 1892 until 2025. It will become the home of the Everton Women’s team from 2025. It is two miles (three km) North of the City Centre and has an all-seated capacity of 39,414.

The 52,888-capacity Everton Stadium, currently known as the Hill Dickinson Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in Vauxhall, Liverpool, England (UK) that will become the home ground for the Everton F.C. ahead of the 2025-2026 seasons replacing the Goodison Park.

The Everton Football Club (Women) is an English women’s association football team based in Liverpool, England (UK) that competes in the FA Women’s Super League, the top division of English women’s football.

‘Everton Football Club’ further stated that when the Men’s Senior Team moves to the Everton Stadium the Everton Women will relocate to the Goodison Park for the start of the 2025-2026 seasons.

The move addresses the Everton Women’s rapid growth and need for a larger, more suitable venue than the 2,200-capacity Walton Hall Park Stadium in Walton, Liverpool (UK).

The Phase One of the transition includes stadium upgrades to enhance the matchday experience and ensure adequate facilities are in place before the start of the season. The relocation will also generate economic opportunities for the local businesses through matchday footfall.

The Goodison Park will remain a central part of Liverpool’s sporting and cultural identity.

The TFG’s commitment to the Women’s team has been evident through recent investments in the players and the staff. The ambition is to create a team capable of challenging for honors – backed by high-quality facilities and a world-renowned home.

Asserted Angus Kinnear, head honcho, Everton F.C., “We know how treasured Goodison is not only to every Evertonian but to the game itself and being able to keep such an iconic stadium at the heart of the legacy project is something that has been incredibly important to us. From the next season we are proud to say our women will have an unrivaled permanent home in the Women’s Super League – another statement of intent as we look to build the foundations that will help us challenge for trophies. The women’s game has grown significantly in recent years and we believe that growth will continue and accelerate.”

Maintained Megan Finnigan, captain of Everton Women, “This move is a testament to where the women’s game is right now and, more importantly, where it is heading. Goodison is a magical stadium with a deep heritage and close ties to the local community.”

Added Dave Kelly, Chair of the Everton Fan Advisory Board, “The Goodison Park holds the most special place in the hearts of all Evertonians. It has been a glorious home for the Men’s team since 1892 and for it now to be transformed into a home for Everton Women is something I know many if not every ‘The Blues’ will support. The women’s game is growing hugely and it is only fitting that we have a ground that provides the opportunity for Everton Women to be at the forefront of that growth.”

Enthused Julie Makin, Fan Advisory Board Member and Secretary of the Everton Women Supporters’ Club, “We are absolutely delighted that the Goodison Park’s legacy will live on and we are proud to continue to call the Goodison Park our home. This is a real statement of intent which shows just how committed they are to backing the women’s team and making Everton a force at the very top of the women’s game in the United Kingdom once again.”

Nikki Doucet, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the newly branded Women’s Super League Football (former Women Professional Leagues Limited) and leading advocate for the growth of the women’s game, expressed her support for the Everton Football Club’s decision to transform the Goodison Park into the new, permanent home of the Everton Women – “This is a defining moment for Everton Women in a move that will play a key role in the continued progress of women’s football in England. The decision is the belief in the players, the fans and in what the women’s game can become when given the stage it deserves.”

Remarked Richie Gillham, Secretary of the Everton FC Heritage Society and Member of the Everton Fan Advisory Board, “This is about more than just bricks and mortar – it’s about building a legacy. The Everton Women will now have a permanent base to grow and thrive and to do it at a ground with such historical significance is incredibly special for all Evertonians.”
