Mott MacDonald has appointed Ruth Shilston as its major events and venues lead for the UK and Europe Image: Mott MacDonald

The global engineering, management and development consultancy Mott MacDonald has appointed Ruth Shilston Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) as the Major Events and Venues Lead Europe, a move that builds on her dedication to sustainability and her extensive knowledge of the company.
 

Venue Development Process

‘INDEXBOX’ stated that Ruth Shilston, who joined Mott MacDonald in 2023 as the Technical Director, will support the clients throughout the venue development process, from initial strategy to sustainability consulting and long-term legacy planning.

London (UK)-based Mott MacDonald is an engineering, management and development consultancy and one of the largest wholly employee-owned firms of its kind. They plan, design, deliver, and maintain transport, energy, water, defense and security, and building infrastructure that is integral to people’s daily lives.
 

Sustainable Engineering

‘INDEXBOX’ further stated that she was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to sustainable engineering in the 2026 New Year Honours List (official public record).
 

Sustainable Venues

Ruth Shilston, who has a background in engineering design and currently serves as the Global Lead for Engineering Sciences at Mott MacDonald as well as a Trustee and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, expressed her ambition to work with the clients to create venues that are integrated into cities, sustainable in operation and enhance experiences for the players, the performers, the spectators, and the communities.

Mark Ewen, Managing Director for Buildings UK and Europe at Mott MacDonald, noted that Ruth Shilston’s appointment comes at an exciting time for the buildings business as it continues to grow in the distinct markets and support the clients in adapting to a changing landscape. He added that her role strengthens the company’s ability to combine the sector knowledge, the multidisciplinary expertise and an understanding of how the venues shape successful places.
