Grand Casablanca Stadium access upgrades

Morocco’s National Railway Office has launched a major infrastructure project to improve road access to the Grand Casablanca Stadium.

The under-construction stadium is a flagship venue in the country’s preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup™.

The project carries an estimated budget of about $14 million and is designed to transform traffic flow and strengthen transport connectivity around the stadium site.

The works will include new road axes and bridge structures that bypass the busy Casablanca–Sidi Qasim railway line, ensuring smooth vehicle access without disrupting rail operations.

Groupe ONCF said the structures will be built to international engineering standards, with deep pile foundations, reinforced concrete, advanced waterproofing systems, and design lifespans exceeding 100 years.

Construction will involve significant steel use and large-scale excavation.

This initiative forms part of a broader push to modernize transport infrastructure around Casablanca, including integrated rail and road improvements aimed at handling increased traffic during major events.

The ONCF’s work is coordinated with other developments such as expanded commuter rail links and regional highway projects tied to the World Cup legacy.

The tender for the work sets strict requirements for contractors, including financial guarantees, prior experience on large projects, and robust safety and quality systems.

With bids due by February 26, the project marks a critical step in Morocco’s broader infrastructure upgrade ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

The 115,000 capacity Grande Stade Hassan II stadium has been designed by Paris-based architects Oualalou + Choi and global sports design leaders Populous.

The design draws inspiration from the traditional social gathering of Morocco known as a ‘moussem’, with the stadium structure set under a grand tented roof that emerges as a dramatic intervention in the forested landscape.

Scheduled to be completed in 2028, the venue will be used mostly for football matches and will serve as the home of the Morocco national football team. The venue is being planned as a host venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup™.

The Grand Stade Hassan II Stadium is being built on a 100-hectare site in the El-Mansouria area of Benslimane Province, 38 kilometers North of Casablanca.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 24^th FIFA World Cup™, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the Men’s national teams of the member associations of FIFA.

Three countries will host the competition representing, for the first time ever, two continents with Morocco, Portugal, and Spain as the host nations.

Moreover, to commemorate the 100^th anniversary of the FIFA World Cup™ representatives of yet another continent – Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay – will each host one game the latter of which hosted the first World Cup in 1930. It will be held from June 8^th-July 21^st.
