La Nueva Romareda SL has struck a 10-year naming rights agreement with Ibercaja covering Spanish football club Real Zaragoza’s two stadiums.

Real Zaragoza said the deal links the brand of Aragon’s largest bank to the two stadiums, both the temporary modular stadium for the next two seasons and the permanent stadium which is under construction.

The deal will generate a total of between €10-19 million, depending on the league in which Real Zaragoza plays.

Real Zaragoza, commonly referred to as Zaragoza, is a football club based in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain, that currently competes in the Segunda Division the second tier of the Spanish league system. Zaragoza currently holds its home games at the La Romareda Stadium.

The club is completely redeveloping its La Romareda Stadium in five phases with the first phase underway. The total cost of the project is €140 million (£121.8 million/$152.5 million).

MLN Group and Nussli were chosen last year d to build a temporary venue for the club while the main stadium is rebuilt.

The pop-up stadium will be in the North Parking, where Real Zaragoza will play as a home team during the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 seasons.

In addition to the naming rights for the two stadiums, the Aragonese bank will receive branding presence in the two stadia and use of the spaces.

Ibercaja will contribute one million euros annually to La Nueva Romareda SL while Real Zaragoza remains in the Second Division, an amount that will increase to two million euros in the seasons between 2025 and 2035 if the team competes in the First Division.

La Nueva Romareda SL’s hareholders are Zaragoza City Council, the Government of Aragon, and Real Zaragoza.

Natalia Chueca, President of the Board of Directors of La Nueva Romareda SL and Mayor of Zaragoza, specified that the €10 million disbursement will be made in advance following the signing of the agreement.

Over the next nine years, the bank will increase the annual sponsorship to €2 million in each of the seasons in which Real Zaragoza competes in the First Division.

Chueca said, “This agreement strengthens the project, ensures income, and contributes to the growth of the club and the city.

“Today is a day of celebration, a day to publicly thank Ibercaja for once again getting involved in a strategic project for Zaragoza, because the financial institution has always been supportive of this city.

“We are talking about a project of transformation, economic growth, and international visibility. This step we are taking today unites four institutions: the City Council, the Government of Aragon, Real Zaragoza, and Ibercaja, who believe in Zaragoza and work in the same direction.”

The President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, said, “We thank Ibercaja for this unwavering support for a key project for Zaragoza and Aragon.

“The gratitude and pride are doubled as it is such a significant Aragonese institution, key to the revitalization of our region from every perspective.

“This modular stadium is a unique project that has sparked great interest and is attracting national experts to visit it and learn how it was built. Surely, many will be interested in replicating it.”
