The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is planning to build a massive cricket stadium at the Amane Village in Thane district of Maharashtra (State of India).

‘THE TIMES OF INDIA’ quoted a source as stating, “The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is looking to build a massive one lakh capacity cricket stadium spread over 50 acres of open land in Amane, which is 26 km off Thane (district in Maharashtra), and 68 km from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India. The MCA has filled the open tender floated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to acquire the land parcel. The association is waiting for approval from the Maharashtra Government.”

Mumbai (India)-based the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is the governing body for cricket in Mumbai and the surrounding places such as Thane, Palghar District and New Mumbai. It governs the Mumbai cricket team and organizes and sanctions cricket tournaments in Mumbai district.

The 33,108-capacity Wankhede Stadium is an international cricket stadium in Mumbai, India. It is owned and operated by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and is the home ground of the Mumbai Indians (a professional franchise cricket team based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, that competes in the Indian Premier League [IPL]).

Mumbai (India)-based the Indian Premier League, also known as the TATA IPL for sponsorship reasons, is a men’s Twenty20 cricket league held annually in India. Founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI – governing body of cricket in India) in 2007, the league features 10 State or City-based franchise teams across India. The IPL usually takes place during the Summer, between March and May every year.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited, commonly abbreviated as the MSRDC, is an Indian public limited company fully owned by the Government of Maharashtra. The MSRDC was established on July 9th, 1996 and was incorporated as a public limited company under the Companies Act 1956 on August 2nd, 1996.

‘THE TIMES OF INDIA’ stated that on July 5th, during the felicitation function of Maharashtra’s four players who were a part of the recent World Cup-winning team (T20 World Cup), the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, had requested the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, to consider building a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Mumbai with a crowd capacity of over one lakh.

The source added, “This stadium was a dream project of the MCA President Amol Kale (who passed away on June 10th in New York, US). It will have all the modern amenities, including two grounds on which first-class matches can be played.”

Incidentally, Kale was a close friend of Fadnavis.
