New tech-based golf league will start in January Image: PGA Golf and TGL

The technology company Infinite Athlete recently announced a partnership with TGL, the new, tech-forward golf league launching in January 2024 and backed by golf greats Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports, to bring its FusionFeed™ technology to power revolutionary artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled experiences.

‘THE F1RST CALL’ stated that Infinite Athlete is the comprehensive and industry-leading platform for sports technology, a single solution from which global leagues, clubs and teams can improve all aspects of broadcast viewing, athlete performance, fan experience, coaching, and operations to empower a better experience, with greater opportunities across the landscape of global sports for athletes, fans and the game.

Born out of the idea that we can do better in all aspects of sports and live events – the fan, the game and the athlete experience, Georgia (US)-based Infinite Athlete’s mission is to create a single technological foundation across all major sports, upon which innovative sports technology and media products can be built. This foundation will combine and connect sports data from all sources, which will create infinite possibilities. Established in 2023, after the merger of Tempus Ex Machina™ and Biocore, LLC.

The TGL is a planned golf league created by TMRW Sports, a venture formed by sports executive Mike McCarley and professional golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, in partnership with the PGA Tour. It will launch in January 2024, with events held on Monday nights in conjunction with the PGA Tour schedule.

The PGA Tour is the organizer of professional golf tours in the United States and North America. It organizes most of the events on the flagship annual series of tournaments also known as the PGA Tour, as well as the PGA Tour Champions (age 50 and older) and the Korn Ferry Tour (for professional players who have not yet qualified to play on the PGA Tour), as well as the PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and formerly the PGA Tour China. The PGA Tour is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida (US), a suburb Southeast of Jacksonville.

Founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and sports executive Mike McCarley, the ‘tomorrow sports’ (TMRW) Sports is focused on harnessing technology to build progressive approaches in sports, media and entertainment to create new pathways for the next generation to enjoy sports. TMRW Sports’ first project, TGL, is an innovative league launched in partnership with the PGA Tour. TMRW Sports is supported by an all-star roster of athletes, celebrities and business leaders from the world of sports, media technology and finance who make up a powerful and diverse investor group. TMRW Sports joins Woods’ TGR Ventures and McIlroy’s Symphony Ventures, and is led by McCarley, Founder and head honcho.

‘THE F1RST CALL’ further stated that Infinite Athlete is the parent company for Tempus Ex Machina™ and Biocore, combining sports video and data technology with safety and performance analytics run by world-leading biomechanical engineers and scientists.

Over the course of the multiyear pact, TGL will work toward leveraging FusionFeed™ to create new AI-driven products across many aspects of the league’s operational and fan-facing initiatives.

Tempus Ex’s Fusion Feed machine learning-powered technology, which analyzes every play from every game to automatically generate clips and personalized highlights packages for partners.

Said Andrew Macaulay, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), TMRW Sports, “The AI models can only be as effective as the data inputs you have feeding into them. Tempus Ex’s FusionFeed™ technology is designed to synchronize every piece of data produced at a sporting event, so they can ingest the vast amounts of data and video at the TGL matches, optimizing our ability to create new experiences for fans.”

Stated Sid Rao, Senior Vice-President (SVP) of Global Partnerships and Revenue, Infinite Athlete, “We are energized about this partnership with the TGL and the opportunity to bring our technology to yet another sport. By partnering with a league like TGL that is strategically building its technology stack from the ground up, we are able to unlock dynamic revenue-generating and enhance fan experience opportunities for them as it continues to grow.”

Infinite Athlete’s FusionFeed™ technology is the only solution that can synchronize and deliver every available piece of data generated by every data and video vendor at a live sporting event – including each video angle, stats platform and player tracker covering each play.

The TGL, launched in partnership with the PGA Tour, offers a fresh approach to the sport with a focus on technology, innovation and fan engagement. A purpose-built venue in Palm Beach, Florida, will combine a data-rich virtual course with a state-of-the-art short game complex creating a unique experience for the fans in the stands and watching around the world.

The new league will feature the world’s top players in a two-hour, team golf competition that merges physical and virtual golf airing in primetime and beginning in January 2024. Twelve players committed to play in TGL have previously been announced, including Tiger Woods (American professional golfer), Rory McIlroy (Northern Irish professional golfer), Jon Rahm (Spanish professional golfer), Justin Thomas (American professional golfer), Collin Morikawa (American professional golfer), Matt Fitzpatrick (English professional golfer), Justin Rose (English professional golfer), Adam Scott (Australian professional golfer), and the American professional golfers – Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Billy Horschel, and Rickie Fowler.
