The Brazilian professional football club – the Sport Club InternacionalVice-President of Administration André Dalto revealed recently that the top-flight is carrying out internal studies to evaluate the possibility of increasing the capacity of their home ground – the Beira-Rio Stadium in Porto Alegre, Brazil – which currently holds 50,842 fans.

‘VOZES DO GIGANTE’ stated that the club is carrying out the internal study using the Argentine professional sports club River Plate’s home ground – the 85,018-capacity Mâs Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina – as a reference point. The River Plate club brought the stands of their home arena closer to the field leading to a significant rise in the capacity of the stadium – from 72,000 to 83,196 seats.

Dalto informed that the Internacional wants to replicate the same formula in their home venue – the Beira-Rio Stadium.

The Sport Club Internacional, commonly known as the Internacional, Inter de Porto Alegre or simply Inter, is a Brazilian professional football club based in Porto Alegre, Brazil. They play in the Série A, the first division of the Brazilian football league system.

The 50,848-capacity José Pinheiro Borda Stadium, better known as the Beira-Rio Stadium, the Gigante da Beira-Rio or simply Beira-Rio, as it is lodged beside the Guaíba River, is a football stadium in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It serves as the home stadium for the Sport Club Internacional.

Remarked Dalto, “Yes, we did carry out a preliminary study on expanding the capacity of the Beira-Rio Stadium. Everything is still at the nascent stage and nothing has been finalized as yet. The finances have still not been planned.”

‘VOZES DO GIGANTE’ further stated that Dalto mentioned about the bunkers side of the stadium “which is quite a complicated area of the facility as to bring changes to that portion factors like discussing the budget and revenue generation comes into play”.

Ticket Scalping

Dalto further informed that the Internacional was going above and beyond to stop the practice of ticket scalping as it was reported recently that few Members were selling tickets of the Inter games at exorbitant prices – “Ticket scalping is a crime. The sports bodies’ regulations have termed it as a crime and one cannot resell tickets at a whopping price. We have reined in those Members and have also spoken to the President of the Members’ Committee in this regard. The Members who were found indulging in the unscrupulous activity will be asked to appear before the Ethics Committee of the Deliberative Council.”
