After clinching Davis Cup glory in 2023 and 2024, Italy’s connection with the historic teams’ event has been further strengthened by the news that the European country will host the Final 8 knockout stage from 2025 through 2027.

‘atptour.com’ stated that the Final 8 is the pinnacle of the Davis Cup which is staged annually and in which 157 countries competed in 2024.

The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men’s tennis. It is organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and contested annually between teams from over 150 competing countries making it the world’s largest annual team sporting competition.

London (UK)-based the International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the governing body of world tennis, wheelchair tennis and beach tennis. It was founded in 1913 as the International Lawn Tennis Federation by 12 national tennis associations. As of 2016, there are 211 national and six regional associations that make up the ITF’s membership.

‘atptour.com’ further stated that in November 2024, the No. 1 in the Public Investment Fund (PIF) Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP – the governing body of the men’s professional tennis circuits) Rankings Jannik Sinner (Italian tennis player) inspired Italy to its third Davis Cup crown (1976, 2023, 2024) with victory in Málaga, Spain.

Riyadh (Saudi Arabia)-based the Public Investment Fund (PIF) is the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. It is among the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world with total estimated assets of US$930 billion (£718.2 billion). It was created in 1971 for the purpose of investing funds on behalf of the Government of Saudi Arabia. The wealth fund is controlled by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler since 2015.

Raved David Haggerty, ITF President, “We are delighted to partner with the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP – the national governing body for the tennis sport in Italy) for the Davis Cup Final 8. Italy has a rich history in tennis and a proven ability to host world-class sporting events. We would like to thank Málaga (City in Spain – the Málaga Open is a professional tennis tournament played on hard courts in Málaga) and Andalusia (a tennis destination in Spain that hosts many tennis events and is popular with the tennis players of all ages) as well as Tennium (a sports management startup focused on the tennis industry) and the ITF member nation the Real Federación Española de Tenis (RFET) for being such great partners in helping us to elevate the event to new heights these past three years. We are confident that over the next three years working with the FITP we can take the Davis Cup even higher providing an unforgettable experience for the players and the fans alike.”

Barcelona (Spain)-based the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, officially known as the Real Federación Española de Tenis (RFET) in Spanish, is the national governing body of tennis in Spain. Established in 1907, the federation oversees the development, regulation and promotion of tennis at both the amateur and professional levels throughout the country.

Italian tennis has enjoyed a surge in recent years. As well as Sinner, who became the first Italian No. 1 in PIF ATP Rankings history in June 2024, five other Italians finished 2024 inside the Top 50 of the PIF ATP Rankings: Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Berrettini, Matteo Arnaldi, and Luciano Darderi.
