The Japan Government has decided to retain the National Stadium’s athletics track rather than going ahead with its original plan to remove it after the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

The ‘Kyodo News’ stated that in 2017, the Government decided to remove the track to make it a better rugby and soccer venue. However, remodeling costs and concerns over profitability without the track have increased the likelihood the venue will remain as is.

The 68,000-capacity Japan National Stadium, formerly known as the New National Stadium, officially named National Stadium, is a multipurpose stadium used mostly for association football in Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan.

The 2020 Summer Paralympics, branded as the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, was an international multisport parasports event held from August 24th to September 5th, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.

The 2020 Summer Olympics and branded as Tokyo 2020 was an international multisport event held from July 23rd to August 8th, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan, with some preliminary events that began on July 21st.

The ‘Kyodo News’ further stated that the stadium was the Tokyo Games’ centerpiece, and its management and operations are to be transferred to the private sector without the involvement of its current operator, the Japan Sport Council.

The Japan Sport Council is the central organization specializing in sports promotional activities and ensuring that school children enjoy a robust health.

The Japan Association of Athletics Federations is currently bidding to host the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

Sebastian Coe, President of World Athletics, last year told Japanese officials he would like to hold the event at the National Stadium.

Tokyo (Japan)-headquartered the Japan Association of Athletics Federations is the national governing body for the sport of athletics in Japan.

Monaco-headquartered World Athletics is the international governing body for the sport of athletics, covering track and field, cross-country running, road running, racewalking, mountain running, and ultra running.
