With each passing day the football team Kansas Jayhawks (US) get closer to finally seeing a project come to fruition that has been in the works for decades.

‘THROUGH THE PHOG’ stated that the home of Kansas football – the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas (US) – is currently being reconstructed in Lawrence. The stadium, which will be completed in phases as part of the new Gateway District, is set to open in time for the 2025-2026 football seasons in August.

The Kansas Jayhawks football program is the intercollegiate football program of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas (US). The program is classified in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the team competes in the Big 12 Conference.

The 47,233-capacity David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium is a college football stadium in Lawrence, Kansas (US) on the campus of the University of Kansas. The stadium was opened in 1921 and is the seventh oldest college football stadium in the United States and is widely recognized as the oldest West of the Mississippi River.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a nonprofit organization that regulates student athletics among about 1,100 schools in the United States and 1 in Canada. It also organizes the athletic programs of the colleges and helps over 500,000 college student athletes who compete annually in college sports. The headquarters is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, formerly known as the Division I-A, is the highest level of college football in the United States. The FBS consists of the largest schools in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Big 12 Conference is a collegiate athletic Conference headquartered in Irving, Texas (US). It consists of 16 full-member universities (three private universities and 13 public universities) in the States of Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia. As of the 2024 season, there are 10 Conferences and 134 schools in the FBS.

The Gateway District is a $448 million project at the University of Kansas that includes a renovated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. The project is designed to improve the fan experience and create a new entry point to the campus.

Recently, the fans got the latest glimpse at what they can expect from the new stadium.

‘THROUGH THE PHOG’ further stated that the Kansas Athletics shared designs of what the seating will look like inside the stadium with the North bowl featuring the old ‘K flag’ design and the ‘Rock Chalk’ displayed on the seating on the West side of the stadium.

The North Bowl will also now feature seatbacks – an upgrade from the bleacher seating that used to be present in that area. In addition, fans will see a “50 percent increase in area per seat and leg room in all renovated sections of the stadium”.

There will be approximately 2,300 club seats in three different spaces throughout the stadium along with “unique social zones”. The suites will be 80 feet closer to the field and all seats on the West and North sides will be closer to the field than in the old stadium.

The field designs are still being finalized but the renderings show end zones with the block lettering that was featured on the University of Kansas’s (KU’s) uniforms this past season. It’s likely that those will be part of the final design, however, the bigger unknown is which of the Jayhawks logo will go at midfield.

It could be KU’s current version of the Jayhawk, it could be the popular 1941 version known as the ‘Warhawk’. There are several directions the KU could go but the fans will have to wait a little longer to know for sure.

Season Ticket Pricing

In addition to the new stadium renderings, Kansas also announced new season ticket pricing models for this upcoming season.

Starting this year, the KU is implementing a new “per-seat donation model” which allows the fans to view the total price of their purchase including the cost of the ticket, the annual donation amount required to purchase the ticket and any applicable taxes or fees. The parking costs and information will be released at a later date prior to the “select-a-seat” process.

The Kansas Athletics said they have sold nearly 90 percent of the premium season tickets and expect to sell out by the end of February. There is also only limited seating available currently in the new 1921 North Field Club.

‘Incredible Renderings’

A ‘LinkedIn Post By Matt Gardner, Vice-President, Innovation at St. Louis Blues’, stated, “What a beauty! These updated renderings of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium are incredible. So grateful for the tremendous leadership of Travis Goff, Collin Sexton, Jason Booker and so many others at Kansas Athletics and The University of Kansas for creating generational impact for our athletic programs and the entire KU community! Can’t wait to see the first phase of this transformation in the Fall! Rock Chalk!”
