The central City of Daejeon, 140 kilometers south of Seoul (South Korea), broke ground on a new baseball stadium on March 22nd, with plans to open it in time for the start of the 2025 season.

‘YONHAP NEWS AGENCY’ stated that the new venue, named the Baseball Dream Park, will be the home of the Hanwha Eagles, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) League club.

The Hanwha Eagles are a South Korean professional baseball team based in Daejeon. They are a member of the KBO League. The Eagles’ home ballpark is the Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium. The Eagles have won the Korean Series once, in 1999, and the league pennant twice.

The 13,000-capacity Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium, also known as the Hanwha Life Eagles Park due to sponsorship reasons, is a baseball park in Daejeon, South Korea. The stadium is located in the vicinity of the Daejeon Station and serves as the residence of the Hanwha Eagles.

Gangnam, Seoul (South Korea)-based the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) League, officially the Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League, is the highest level league of baseball in South Korea. The KBO League was founded with six franchises in 1982 and is the most popular sports league in South Korea. The Kia Tigers are the most successful team, having won 11 of the 40 championships.

‘Haeahn Architecture’ stated that designed by Haeahn Architecture and set to be built by Kyeryong Construction Industrial, the Dream Park project aims to revitalize the old city center of Daejeon and establish a new and differentiated sports complex.

The new ball park in Daejeon City will be the only pro-baseball arena in the middle region in Korea, Haeahn Architecture has implemented a new landmark in the old City center by presenting a mass design symbolizing the dynamic image of Daejeon and the soaring spirit of its baseball team.

‘Haeahn Architecture’ further stated that by turning the entire Hanbat Sports Complex into a pedestrian-oriented cultural space devoid of vehicle traffic, Haeahn Architecture has designed the arena in such a manner so as to provide Daejeon citizens with an open park, daily sports, performing arts, commerce, experiential programs, and more.

In keeping with the latest trend, Haeahn Architecture has designed an archive hall related to the open-type main hall.

Gangnam-gu, Seoul (South Korea)-based Haeahn Architecture strives to create special places that people desire to live and visit with the extensive insight of nature, people and history. Since its establishment in 1990, Haeahn has always challenged to create Innovative Urban Environmental Designs.

‘YONHAP NEWS AGENCY’ further stated that the Eagles residence is the Hanwha Life Eagles Park, which opened in 1964 and has since undergone multiple renovations. It’s the oldest stadium in the KBO and, with a capacity of 13,000, also the smallest in the 10-team league.

The City informed that the construction of the new stadium will cost 161.7 billion won (US$123.8 million).

The stadium will have asymmetrical outfield dimensions with varying wall heights. It will be 99 meters from the home plate to the left foul pole, but 95 meters from home to the right foul pole. The right field fence will be 8 meters high, while the fence will be 2.4 meters tall in other parts of the outfield.

The Baseball Dream Park will also be the first KBO stadium with a two-tiered bullpen, allowing fans to see both the home team’s and the visiting team’s relievers warming up.

Amenities in and around the stadium will include an infinity pool, a playground for children and interactive sports exhibits.

Put in Lee Jang-woo, Daejeon Mayor, “Set to open in the beginning of the 2025 season, the Baseball Dream Park won’t just be a baseball stadium. We will build it into a national landmark, an arts, culture and leisure destination for everyone.”

Eagles’ legends Song Jin-woo, Jang Jong-hoon, Jeong Min-chul, and Kim Tae-kyun, circa 1,000 Eagles fans and KBO Commissioner Heo Koo-youn graced the groundbreaking ceremony.
