The Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) in Malaysia is set to become a year-round destination for sport, culture, and community, giving a lasting boost to the city.

Selangor Journal said the redevelopment is not just a facelift but a reimagining of the iconic stadium as a dynamic hub designed to serve the public throughout the year.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said, “Unlike the previous single-purpose stadium, which operated less than 30 days a year, the new KSSA is reimagined as a vibrant, multi-use district designed for year-round use.

“This marks a shift from limited infrastructure to a dynamic civic space maximised for public value and community engagement,” he said at the event held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel here.

The revamped complex, which is being built on the site of the old Shah Alam Stadium, will feature an indoor multipurpose hall, football training grounds, an arena, and dedicated spaces for arts, cultural events, and performances, among others.

The jewel in the crown of the development will be its futuristic stadium, which will give legendary football club Selangor FC the home it deserves.

Selangor FC is a professional football club based in the city of Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The club currently competes in the Malaysia Super League, the top tier of Malaysian football.

The new stadium will be complete with state-of-the-art features such as a covered, transparent roof, temperature-regulated seats, wide-open concourses and world-class safety features, including separate entrances for home and away fans.

The stadium’s most spectacular feature, however, is the multi-use retractable pitch, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.

When pulled out, it will enable the stadium to host other events inside such as performances, eliminating concerns over the pitch’s condition afterwards.

Amirudin said at the heart of the KSSA’s development will be a 310,000 square metre green landscape featuring a botanical garden, jogging and cycling paths, and walkable spaces.

He said the KSSA will play a major role in boosting entrepreneurial culture by strengthening the small and medium enterprise (SME) ecosystem along the commercial area of Shah Alam city centre.

“The KSSA master plan also prioritises accessibility and connectivity to the LRT3 public transport system. This means Selangor residents living in commercial hubs like Kuala Lumpur or as far as Putrajaya will be able to reach the complex without needing to use private vehicles.”

At the handover ceremony, the Selangor government — through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI — officially appointed Lembaran Prospek Sdn Bhd (LPSB), a wholly owned subsidiary of MRCB Land Sdn Bhd and part of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), as the project’s main contractor.

Designed by local firm Hijjas and global consultants Populous, the KSSA will blend iconic heritage with modern, inclusive elements to meet community needs while aligning with Selangor’s low-carbon goals.
