Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona is set to become the new home of all Argentine football.

The Argentine FA said it has signed a framework agreement to collaborate with the Province of Buenos Aires allowing it to use the Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona in the city of La Plata in Argentina.

The Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona, formerly Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Tolosa, La Plata Partido, in La Plata.

After the death of Diego Maradona in November 2020, the stadium was named “Estadio Único Diego Maradona” to honor the legend.

Under the terms of the deal, the Argentine Football Association will present the provincial government with a schedule of works so that the venue can be transformed in 2025 into the new home for all Argentine soccer teams.

The agreement includes the participation of the various national soccer teams and other soccer events both locally (Copa Argentina and neutral semi-finals and finals) and internationally (continental cups).

FA President Claudio Tapia said: “We have been working for some time with Governor Axel Kicillof on a place that all our Argentine teams could call home.

“We have also heeded the request of many of our soccer clubs to find a suitable venue to play important matches and so that the members and fans of the clubs do not have to spend so much money on long trips.

“We want to pay off this construction debt, to have a first-class stadium and to be able to play matches all of our soccer matches there.”

The Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, said: “This agreement that we signed is something that the association has been seeking for a long time to be able to have its own stadium.

“The main idea according to the work plan is to be able to hold several matches over the next few years. It is very important to be able to host the Argentine National Team in the province, which has given us so much joy in recent years.

“Now we are thinking about making this dream the stadium of all the Argentine clubs, in the capital of the province. Currently, the Diego Armando Maradona is operational and functional and with a very promising and broad horizon of many improvements and works.”

meeting was attended by different leaders of Argentine clubs, authorities of the province of Buenos Aires and the Mayor of the city of La Plata, Julio Alak.
