The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) (UK) has announced a new collaboration with ExpectAI to strengthen sustainability action across its wider supplier ecosystem and support its long‑term net zero ambitions thus creating value for both the club and its suppliers.

‘Meaningful Progress’

Remarked Rob Lawson, Chief Executive and Secretary, MCC, “The Lord’s Cricket Ground (home of Marylebone Cricket Club) has always sought to lead both on and off the field. Sustainability is a key part of our long‑term vision and we recognize that meaningful progress requires collaboration across our entire supplier network. This collaboration with ExpectAI will help us better understand our value chain, improve engagement with the suppliers and identify practical opportunities to reduce the emissions. It is an important step in supporting our ambition to make Lord’s one of the world’s most sustainable sporting venues.”

Sustainability Initiatives

The initial phase of the above collaboration will focus on supplier intelligence and Scope 3 emissions management thus laying the foundations for broader sustainability initiatives, deeper supplier engagement and AI across the Lord’s Cricket Ground operations.

Una

‘FSM’ stated that the collaboration will see the Marylebone Cricket Club deploy ExpectAI’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, Una, to enhance supplier intelligence, improve visibility across its value chain and identify the opportunities to reduce the Scope 3 emissions (all the indirect greenhouse gas emissions that happen across a company’s value chain from sources the company does not directly own or control) throughout its operations.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is an English cricket club founded in 1787 and the Lord’s Cricket Ground, dubbed ‘The Home of Cricket’, serves as their home stadium.

The 31,100-seat Lord’s Cricket Ground, better known as Lord’s, is a cricket venue at St John’s Wood, historically in Middlesex and now in the City of Westminster, England (UK).

ExpectAI is a UK-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) company that helps the small and mid-sized businesses lower their carbon emissions and increase their profits.

Iconic Venue

‘FSM’ further stated that as one of the world’s most iconic sporting venues Lord’s welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and works with an extensive network of suppliers and partners.

Net Zero

The above initiative forms part of Marylebone Cricket Club’s broader sustainability strategy which includes ambitions to achieve net zero emissions across Scopes 1 (direct greenhouse gas emissions that come from sources owned or controlled by an organization) and 2 (indirect greenhouse gas emissions caused by an organization when it buys electricity, steam, heating, or cooling) by 2030 and net zero across all scopes by 2040.

Environmental Impact

For the major sporting venues the Scope 3 emissions often represent the largest and most complex area of environmental impact. These emissions sit beyond the direct operations and are influenced by the supplier networks, the procurement decisions, the logistics, the food and beverage (F&B) services, waste management, the materials, and a range of other activities.

Supplier-level Insights

Through Una, the MCC will be able to bring supplier intelligence into a single platform, strengthen the supplier engagement and move, where feasible, from the estimated emissions data towards more robust supplier‑level insights. The platform will also help identify the practical opportunities for improvement and provide greater visibility into progress over time.

‘Sustainability Ambitions’

Added Anand Verma, Founder and Head Honcho, ExpectAI, “As a lifelong cricket fan I have admired the Marylebone Cricket Club for as long as I can remember and the Lord’s Cricket Ground has held a special place for me since I was a child. To now have ExpectAI supporting the MCC’s sustainability ambitions is something I am incredibly proud of. The next phase of sustainability will be driven by collaboration. No organization operates in isolation and Lord’s sits at the center of a complex ecosystem of suppliers, partners and stakeholders. Connecting that ecosystem through better data and shared intelligence creates a significant opportunity to accelerate measurable change. Una transforms the fragmented data into actionable intelligence thus helping the organizations make better decisions, collaborate more effectively with their suppliers and move faster towards their sustainability goals. Together with the MCC, we have an opportunity to demonstrate how Artificial Intelligence can turn sustainability ambition into measurable action – and help establish Lord’s as one of the world’s most sustainable sporting venues.”

Scalable Action

Both the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and ExpectAI are members of the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) which brings together the private‑sector leaders to turn sustainability ambition into practical, scalable action. The collaboration at Lord’s reflects that shared commitment thus combining MCC’s extensive supplier network with ExpectAI’s AI capabilities to strengthen the supplier‑level intelligence and accelerate progress on Scope 3 emissions.
