Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Athletics have hired industry veteran Marc Badain as the club’s new president.

MLB.com said Badain joins the Athletics from his role as President of Oak View Group Las Vegas – Arena and Entertainment, where he has been overseeing the planning for a multi-billion-dollar integrated resort and arena project.

With more than three decades of experience in sports business leadership, Badain was instrumental in the relocation of the NFL’s Raiders to Las Vegas and led the team responsible for the successful development of Allegiant Stadium.

Badain’s career with the Raiders spanned several decades, including seven years as team president.

His extensive experience in overseeing large-scale projects and steering complex organizational operations will be crucial as the Athletics transition to their new Las Vegas ballpark.

The 33,000-capacity New Las Vegas Stadium is a future fixed roof ballpark to be built on the site of the former Tropicana Las Vegas (a casino hotel on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It operated from 1957 to 2024) on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada (US).

It is planned as the new home stadium of the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB) after they complete their relocation from Oakland to Las Vegas. Once they start playing in the Vegas ballpark they will be known as the Las Vegas Athletics.

A’s owner John Fisher said, “We are excited to welcome Marc to the Athletics. His vast experience, particularly his work on the opening of Allegiant Stadium and overseeing the Raiders’ move to Las Vegas, makes him a great addition to our team at this pivotal moment.

“His leadership, commitment to the community, and ability to oversee transformative projects will be key as we look to build a strong and successful future in Southern Nevada.”

Sandy Dean, who was serving as interim president, will now take on the role of Vice Chairman. In this new position, Dean will continue to represent the ownership group in various areas and remain actively involved in plans to develop the team’s new ballpark.

Badain’s career with the Raiders began in 1991 as a training camp intern. Over the years, he advanced through the ranks, eventually becoming the team’s chief financial officer in 2004 and later its president.

Badain said, “I’m honored to join the Athletics and help guide the team into a new era of success.

“Las Vegas is a city that celebrates innovation and excellence, and I’m excited to work alongside the team, the fans, and the community to create something extraordinary.”

Community leaders have voiced their support for the hiring of Badain.

Bill Hornbuckle, CEO & President, MGM Resorts, said, “I am thrilled that Marc has joined the Athletics as President. He possesses the right experience and know-how to help bring Major League Baseball and another world-class entertainment venue to the south end of The Strip.

“The arrival of the A’s, under Marc’s leadership, will elevate Las Vegas’ reputation as the sports and entertainment capital of the world, bringing exciting new experiences for our city and its millions of visitors to enjoy.”

Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, said, “Having Marc at the helm is a great choice. He is well respected in the community and has plenty of experience building relationships, building and brands. I am excited to work alongside him as we embark on yet another large venue in our community.”

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Badain holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Emory University and an MBA from the University of California’s Walter A. Haas School of Business.
