The 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Star Game will be held at the Banc of California Stadium (US), the home ground of Los Angeles FC. The match, which will pit a team of MLS All-Stars against a selection of all-star players from Mexico’s Liga MX – the top professional football division of the Mexican football league system -was originally set to be held in Los Angeles in the year 2020.

‘Spectrum News 1’ stated that last season’s All-Star Game was canceled following the suspension of the 2020 MLS season due to the COVID-19 pandemic which had caused maximum sufferings and deaths in the United States. The rescheduled match will take place on August 25th this year.

The Major League Soccer (MLS) is a men’s professional soccer league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation, which represents the sport’s highest level in the United States and Canada. The league comprises 27 teams – 24 in the US and 3 in Canada – and plans to expand to 30 teams by the 2023 season.

The Major League Soccer All-Star Game is an annual soccer game held by Major League Soccer featuring selected players from the league against an international club.

The 22,000-capacity Banc of California Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It is the home of Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC and future home of the National Women’s Soccer League’s Angel City FC.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber and Liga MX Executive President Mikel Arriola were on-hand along with the Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to make the official announcement at the stadium.

The trio were also joined by the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) Lead Managing Owner, Larry Berg, and special guests.

‘Spectrum News 1’ further stated that the annual MLS All-Star Game typically pits a selection of the league’s best players against foreign teams. Past opponents have included English Premier League side, Chelsea F.C., Spanish giants Real Madrid and German Bundesliga powerhouse, Bayern Munich.

Players to have donned the All-Star jersey in the past include league greats like David Beckham, Landon Donovan, Thierry Henry and Robbie Keane, along with current MLS stars like LAFC’s Carlos Vela.

This year’s match will see the All-Stars take on the crème de la crème from Mexico’s top-flight domestic league for the first time.

The 2020 MLS All-Star team will be coached by LAFC coach, Bob Bradley.

Said Bradley, “This will be a special night of football in Los Angeles. It is always an honor to represent our City and our league on the international stage, and we look forward to competing against the LIGA MX All-Stars.”
