Worcestershire CCC unveils new experience Image: Worcestershire County Cricket Club

Worcestershire County Cricket Club has unveiled the all-new 22Yard Bar & Café at Visit Worcestershire New Road.

Worcestershire CCC said that after Foleys Café closed at the end of the 2023 season, supporters and guests expressed a desire for a dedicated coffee spot onsite.

The 22Yard Bar & Café answers that call, and will offer a fantastic range of hot drinks, and delicious food options.

The contemporary hospitality space is open to members and general admission visitors on non-Vitality Blast matchdays, delivering a fresh and comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy.

Visit Worcestershire New Road is a 5,500-capacity cricket ground in the English city of Worcester. The home of Worcestershire County Cricket Club since 1896, it has been rated as one of the world’s most beautiful cricket grounds.

The ground is subject to severe flooding from the nearby River Severn and over the winter of 2023–24 it was flooded five times, which resulted in the first two home games of the 2024 County Championship being switched to the Chester Road North Ground in Kidderminster.

Worcestershire CCC said the 22Yard Bar & Café stands apart for its innovative, moveable design and flood-proof flexibility.

The café is fully prepared for emergency relocation and should Visit Worcestershire New Road be placed on flood alert, the 22Yard Bar & Café can be moved offsite within an hour, including relocation to Kidderminster if needed.

On Vitality Blast matchdays, the 22Yard Bar & Café will be transformed into a vibrant, exclusive hospitality area featuring a full bar, a BBQ package and an upstairs balcony with elevated views of the action

The new concept builds on the sold-out success of last year’s BEARD Terrace experience, setting an even higher standard for hospitality.

When there’s no match on, the 22Yard Bar & Café offers a modern and adaptable space for: corporate conferences, meetings, seminars and larger gatherings like birthday parties or milestone celebrations.

Worcestershire’s Commercial Director Joe Tromans commented, “The 22Yard Bar & Café is going to be a fantastic new addition that underscores our commitment to delivering a first-class visitor experience at Visit Worcestershire New Road.

“While we do face severe constraints due to the increased amount of flooding, we are very excited to have developed an innovative, moveable solution that can be relocated within an hour if needed.

“We’re extremely grateful to Rapid Retail too for their forward-thinking approach, which has helped us overcome these challenges and ensure our visitors can enjoy a welcoming, and modern environment.”

In April 2024, Worcestershire’s board confirmed that they were looking at options to secure the club’s long-term future, possibly including a move away from New Road.
