The National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star scheduled for February 12th-14th, 2021, in Indianapolis (US) has been postponed to February 16th-18th, 2024. An announcement in this regard was announced by the NBA and the Indiana Pacers recently.

The Indiana Pacers are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis. The Pacers compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is an American men’s professional basketball league. It is composed of 30 teams and is one of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. It is the premier men’s professional basketball league in the world.

The NBA All-Star Game is a basketball exhibition game hosted every February by the National Basketball Association and showcases 24 of the league’s star players. It is the featured event of NBA All-Star Weekend, a three-day event which goes from Friday to Sunday.

With the coronavirus pandemic quietly getting worse in the United States and cases exceeding the 10-million mark, the Pacers, the NBA All-Star Host Committee and the NBA is thinking twice on holding the event as the present health situation is also preventing them from appropriately planning and executing fan-focused All-Star activities in Indianapolis that were envisioned for this February.

The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse (Indianapolis), home of the Pacers, on February 18th, 2024. Plans for a revised NBA All-Star 2021 will be announced at a later date.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver puts in, “While we are disappointed that the NBA All-Star Game will not take place in Indianapolis in 2021, we are looking forward to the Pacers and the City hosting the game and surrounding events in 2024. I want to thank Herb Simon, Steve Simon, Rick Fuson and the entire Pacers organization as well as the NBA All-Star 2021 Host Committee and the community of Indianapolis for working with us to reschedule our All-Star activities.”

Added Pacers owner Herb Simon, “We are excited about the opportunity to bring Indiana the very best All-Star experience in 2024. The efforts of so many Hoosiers (read residents of Indiana) to prepare for the NBA All-Star 2021 put us ahead of the game for the hard work to come, and we are so grateful to the NBA for once again recognizing Indianapolis as a City that delivers world-class events.”

NBA All-Star 2024 in Indianapolis will follow Cleveland (Ohio, US) in 2022 and Salt Lake City (Utah, US) in 2023 as All-Star host. The 2024 game will mark the second NBA All-Star in Indianapolis, which staged the midseason classic in 1985.
