New CEO for Doha 2030 Asian Games Qatar

The Organising Committee for the 21^st Asian Games, Doha 2030, has appointed Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Buainain as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Inside the Games said the Qatari capital was awarded hosting rights of the multisport event in 2020 by the Olympic Council of Asia, after presenting a risk-free bid that showcased existing venues to hold competitions.

Qatar has been steadily preparing for the event, not just as hosts, but also as competitors.

The CEO appointment was made by the Board of Directors of the Organising Committee, chaired by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Organising Committee’s Board.

In his new role, Dr. Al Buainain will be responsible for executive operations of the Organising Committee and ensuring the implementation of preparations and strategic plans for the Games, which represent a major continental sporting event.

He will ensure they are in line with the standards and the objectives set for delivering this major event.

The Doha 2030 Asian Games are a major international multi-sport event that Qatar will host in Doha in 2030.

The Asian Games are often described as Asia’s equivalent of the Olympics and are held every four years under the authority of the Olympic Council of Asia. Doha was awarded the hosting rights in December 2020.

The Games will bring together athletes from more than 45 Asian countries, with over 10,000 athletes and officials expected to participate.

The sports programme includes a wide range of Olympic sports such as athletics, swimming, football, and gymnastics, as well as sports that are particularly popular in Asia, including kabaddi, sepak takraw, and wushu.

Esports are also expected to feature, reflecting Asia’s strong role in the sector.

Many of the competitions will be held in venues already built or upgraded for the FIFA World Cup 2022, which supports Qatar’s focus on sustainability and long-term legacy.

Events will take place across Doha and nearby areas, using climate-adapted and modern facilities.

The Games are also expected to contribute to tourism, economic activity, and the development of sport across the country and the wider region.

The QOC held a workshop with its sports federations just after the country was chosen to build a strategy to prepare national teams for Doha 2030.

The Middle Eastern nation is implementing a strategic framework and a systematic plan to develop athletes’ performance, tending to their day-to-day needs as well as their academic, professional and health life, in addition to measuring, following up and evaluating performance to ensure the achievement of the interim goals and main results in the lead up to the Games.
