Following the conclusion of the Major League Baseball (MLB) National League Wild Card series recently, the New York City Football Club (NYCFC) confirmed on October 12th that its Audi Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup Playoffs First Round Match against Inter Miami CF, presented by Socios.com, will be moved to Citi Field in New York, US.

‘New York City FC’ stated that previously, the Citi Field was not available for this match due to the New York Mets’ involvement in the MLB Playoffs. However, following the results of the National League Wild Card series this past weekend, the Citi Field is now available.

New York (US)-based the Major League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball organization and the oldest major professional sports league in the world. MLB is composed of 30 total teams, divided equally between the National League and the American League, with 29 in the United States and 1 in Canada.

The Wild Card Series (formerly known as Wild Card Game prior to 2022) are games that serve as the opening round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason. A single wild card game was first instituted in 2012, best-of-three playoff wild card series were adopted for the 2022 season.

The New York City Football Club is an American professional soccer club based in New York City that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), the highest level of American soccer, as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference. The New York City FC is the reigning MLS Cup champion, having won it in 2021. The 54,251-capacity Yankee Stadium in New York City, New York (US) serves as their home digs.

The Inter Miami CF or simply Inter Miami is an American professional soccer club based in the Miami metropolitan area (US). Established in 2018, the club began play in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the 2020 season. The 18,000-capacity DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (US) serves as their home ground.

The 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs (branded as the 2022 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for sponsorship reasons) will be the 27th edition of the MLS Cup Playoffs, the post-season championship of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top soccer league in the United States and Canada. The tournament culminated the 2022 MLS regular season. The tournament will begin on October 15th and will conclude with the MLS Cup 2022 on November 5th, 16 days before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in Qatar.

The 41,922-capacity Citi Field is a ballpark located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in New York City, United States. It opened in 2009 and is the home field of Major League Baseball’s New York Mets. The stadium was built as a replacement for the adjacent Shea Stadium, which opened in 1964. The Citi Field has been designed by Populous.

‘New York City FC’ further stated that the club will always do everything in its power to play its matches within the five boroughs and is grateful to its partners at the Mets for helping make this venue change a possibility.

The NYCFC will host sixth seed Inter Miami on October 17th at the Citi Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET, with coverage on FS1 and Fox Deportes.
