Nou Mestalla build work Valencia phew moment!

It almost is like a too good to be true development – On January 10^th, construction work resumed on the gathering-dust-project – the partially-built Nou Mestalla Stadium in Valencia, Spain – the future home of the LaLiga team Valencia CF.

‘valenciacf.com’ stated that on the occasion an event was held which was attended by the President of Valencia CF, Lay Hoon Chan, and representatives from the two main players involved in the construction of the Nou Mestalla Stadium – Mark Fenwick, one of the Founders of the prestigious architectural firm Fenwick Iribarren Architects, and José Antonio Madrazo, Director of Spain, Portugal and the Industrial Area of FCC Construcción (Spain-based international construction company), one of the leading companies in the construction of stadiums and which will be spearheading the construction of the Nou Mestalla.

Work on the above venue is expected to be completed by July 2027 paving the way for the top-flight to play in their new home in the 2027-2028 seasons.

The Valencia CF is a Spanish professional football club based in Valencia, Spain, which currently plays in the LaLiga, the top flight of the Spanish football league system. Valencia was founded in 1919 and has played its home games at the 49,430-seat Mestalla Stadium since its opening.

The Mestalla Stadium is a football stadium in Valencia, Spain. The stadium is the home of the Valencia CF and has a capacity to hold 49,430 spectators making it the eighth-largest stadium in Spain and the largest in the Valencian community.

The 61,500-capacity Nou Mestalla is a partially built football stadium in Valencia, Spain, intended as a replacement for Valencia’s current stadium, the Mestalla. The basic concrete structure of the stadium was built between August 2007 and February 2009 but work was then halted citing financial reasons.

Madrid (Spain)-based Fenwick Iribarren Architects, founded in 1990 by Architects Mark Fenwick and Javier Iribarren, is a nationally and internationally recognized architectural design studio. The famed design firm was tasked with designing three Qatar 2022 stadia and participates in many distinguished national and international projects.

‘valenciacf.com’ further stated that January 10^th, 2025 was the deadline set by the Valencia City Council to the club when it gave the nod to resume work on the under-construction facility a few months back.

The price tag to complete the remaining work of the Nou Mestalla Stadium stands at 139.7 million euros. As per a document, the total expenses for the new stadium’s construction has been pegged at 202.7 million euros and after adding the general expenses and the industrial profits the same would reach 241.2 million euros, excluding value-added tax (VAT).
