The organizers of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix (US) have appointed Katharina Nowak as its new President making her the youngest ever to lead the event at just 28 years old.

‘MOTORSPORTWEEK’ stated that Tom Garfinkel, Managing Partner of the Grand Prix and the South Florida Motorsports (the promoter and organizer of the Miami Grand Prix), confirmed the above announcement recently.

London (UK)-based Formula One is the highest class of worldwide racing for the open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.

Paris (France)-based the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile is an international organization with two primary functions surrounding use of the automobile. Its mobility division advocates the interests of the motoring organizations, the automotive industry and the motor car users in the fields of road safety and traffic circulation.

The Miami Grand Prix is a Formula One Grand Prix which was held for the first time during the 2022 season with the event taking place at the 100,000-capacity Miami International Autodrome which is located around the grounds and private facilities of the 65,326-capacity Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida (US), a suburb of Miami located 16 miles (26 km) North of Downtown Miami.

‘MOTORSPORTWEEK’ further stated that Nowak replaces Tyler Epp who has led the race since its launch in 2022. During his tenure, the event achieved four consecutive sellouts and won the 2024 Formula 1 Promoter of the Year Award.

Attendance rose steadily reaching 275,000 in 2025 while the 2023 race delivered a record 3.1 million television viewers in the United States. Epp is leaving for “an important role in the motorsports industry.”

Enthused Garfinkel, “I am excited to announce Katharina as our President. She is one of the most talented young executives I’ve been around and I know she will continue to build on what has been established here – that we are committed to innovating fan experience and delivering a world-class event for the drivers, the teams and the fans. I also want to thank Tyler for his leadership. The Grand Prix simply wouldn’t be what it has grown into today without him.”

Welcome Nowak!

Nowak joined the Miami Dolphins and the Hard Rock Stadium in 2019. She has since held roles in Events, Partnerships and Business Operations.

She became Vice-President of the Grand Prix in 2024 directing strategy and negotiations with Formula 1 and its partners.

Born in Vienna, she studied advertising and public relations at the Loyola University Chicago.

Noted Nowak, “I am both humbled and excited to take on this new role as President. I want to thank Steve Ross, Tom and Tyler for their vision, investment and leadership. In this new chapter our goals remain unchanged – we will continue to deliver an exceptional event for our stakeholders with elite on-track action and fan-first experience at the center of all we do. We have an incredible team committed to excellence and I am eager to continue the work that has already begun.”

The announcement also included the promotion of John Murphy to Managing Director of the South Florida Motorsports.

Murphy has been with the Grand Prix since 2022, most recently as the Vice-President of Sporting and Racing Operations. He will now oversee all motorsport events at the Miami International Autodrome.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Murphy previously spent seven years at Motorsport Australia focusing on business development and commercial operations.
