The English Football League (EFL) Championship team Oxford United F.C. has confirmed that the Cherwell District Council Committee meeting to determine the new stadium planning application will take place on August 14th.

‘OXFORD UNITED’ stated that a report published by the Cherwell’s Planning Team will be reviewed by the Planning Committee and states that the application is recommended for approval.

Preston (UK)-based the English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales (UK). Founded in 1888 as the Football League it is the oldest football league in the world and was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992 when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League (the highest level of the English football league system). The Football League was rebranded as the English Football League (EFL) starting with the 2016-2017 seasons.

The Oxford United Football Club is a professional football club based in Oxford, England (UK). The club competes in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football.

The 12,500-capacity Kassam Stadium is the home of the Oxford United F.C. and is named after the ground’s Owner and the former Chairman of the football club Firoz Kassam.

The 16,000-capacity New Oxford United Stadium is a proposed multipurpose stadium to be built in Kidlington, Oxfordshire (UK). It will become the new home of the EFL Championship club Oxford United F.C. replacing the club’s current home, the Kassam Stadium, where they have played since 2001.

The Oxford United’s ‘Triangle’ venue plans involve building a new 16,000-capacity state-of-the-art stadium on a site known as ‘The Triangle’ near Kidlington which includes plans for a hotel, restaurant, conference center, and community facilities.

The Cherwell District Council Committee is a subgroup of Councilors within the Cherwell District Council that focuses on specific areas of the Council’s work such as planning, budget setting or the Council’s engagement with the companies it owns.

‘OXFORD UNITED’ further stated that if the Planning Committee agrees with the recommendations of the report the application will then be referred to the Secretary of State – a standard procedure for an application of this scale.

Observed Jonathon Clarke, Development Director, Oxford United, “This is a significant and positive step toward our goal of building a world-class venue that safeguards the club’s future. We now have confirmation of when the Planning Committee will meet and look forward to them hopefully endorsing the positive recommendation made by their professional officers.”
