IKK Fangda JV wins facade contract for Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium Image: Qiddiya and Populous

A Chinese/Saudi Arabian joint venture has won the contract to install the $306 million façade for the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium being built in Qiddiya in Saudi Arabia.

Construction Business News said a joint venture between China’s Fangda Group (51%) and Saudi Arabia’s IKK Group (49%) has landed the contract to build the façade.

The joint venture will deliver the curtain wall systems for the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium.

The façade is being engineered to handle high winds, sandstorms and extreme heat, for a venue linked to Saudi Arabia’s FIFA World Cup 2034™ preparations.

The contract covers two sections of the project: the main stadium and the museum and ancillary buildings. The façade systems will be engineered to withstand high winds, sandstorms and extreme heat.

The IKK Fangda JV Company signed the agreement for the work on 18 October with Uptown Stadium Construction JV, the stadium’s main contractor.

The main contractor is a partnership between Spain’s FCC Construcción and Saudi Arabia’s Nesma & Partners Contracting.

Multipurpose venue

Located on the edge of the Tuwaiq cliffs in Qiddiya City, near Riyadh, the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium is designed by Populous and is planned as a multipurpose sports and entertainment venue.

It will have more than 46,000 seats for football, including Saudi Premier League matches and FIFA World Cup 2034™ games.

It will have a capacity of over 60,900 for concerts and other major events, including boxing. It is projected to attract 7.6 million visits annually.

Surrounded by over 50,000 m² of retail, dining, and entertainment options, it will also stage concerts and cultural festivals.

What sets this stadium apart is its fully integrated design, featuring:

  • A retractable roof and pitch for an all-weather experience.
  • A massive light emitting diode (LED) wall for dynamic visuals and enhanced fan engagement.
  • Real-time data and live reporting to bring fans closer to the action.
  • A climate-controlled environment, ensuring comfort year-round.
