The Premier League team Crystal Palace F.C. (UK) has shared an update on the redevelopment of its home pitch – Selhurst Park Stadium, as well as the Academy and first-team Training Ground news.

‘Crystal Palace F.C.’ stated that first and foremost, the club remains totally committed to the Selhurst Park redevelopment project, and is working hand-in-hand with counterparts at the Croydon Council and the Mayor of London’s office to progress the necessary requirements before further progress is made.

The Crystal Palace Football Club is a professional football club based in Selhurst in the Borough of Croydon, South London, England, UK, who compete in the Premier League, the highest level of English football.

The 25,456-capacity Selhurst Park Stadium is a football stadium in Selhurst in the London Borough of Croydon which is the home ground of Premier League side Crystal Palace. The stadium was designed by Archibald Leitch and opened in the year 1924.

‘Crystal Palace F.C.’ further stated that a resolution to grant planning permission by Croydon Council was warmly received by the club in 2018, and this original application submitted in 2018 remains live.

However, as a result of changes to planning policy in the London Plan, the club is submitting further information, including details on minor adjustments to the scheme to adhere to new measures such as fire safety regulations, energy requirements and urban greening, so that an up to date assessment can be made. This will be done in the coming weeks.

Chairman of Crystal Palace F.C. Steve Parish said, “With all the upheaval and uncertainty brought about by COVID, we have focused on the Academy as well as first-team Training Ground developments. The final wing of the Academy will open early 2023 and it will take the whole facility to extraordinary new levels. It includes a huge medical rehab gym and swimming pool complex that will enable us to give the very best physical and medical care to all our players. The first-team Training Ground is currently under refurbishment to mirror the look, feel and standard of the Academy restaurant, dressing rooms and office space.”

Added Parish, “Collectively, the Academy and first-team Training Ground amasses over 50 acres right in the heart of South London, providing all the necessary tools for the club to progress to the next level. The decision was taken to get this area right and now the focus moves back to the stadium. This is the single biggest project that the football club will have undertaken and the learnings we have from the Academy and first-team practice facilities will be invaluable. The Selhurst Park redevelopment will exceed £100m of investment, and I’m sure supporters can appreciate the scale, complexity and enormity of this project. But it is something we are absolutely committed to. I’d like to thank Croydon Council for their continued support in enabling us to update the application since the resolution to grant planning permission was issued.”

He concluded, “We very much hope to make significant progress in the coming months, and will keep supporters and stakeholders updated as and when we have more news.”
