Lighting upgrade at DHL Stadium in Cape Town Image: DHL Stadium

The DHL Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, has reached a remarkable milestone by becoming the first venue in the Southern Hemisphere, and the very first in Africa, to achieve FIFA field certification under the prestigious ‘FIFA Quality Programme for Floodlights – FIFA Quality Pro’ standard.

The above development has set a new benchmark for venue lighting across Africa and beyond.

‘cbn.co.za’ stated that the above achievement marks a significant step forward for sports infrastructure on the continent thus reinforcing Africa’s ability to meet and exceed the global performance standards for the professional sporting venues.

The 55,000-seat Cape Town Stadium, known since 2021 as the DHL Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a football (soccer) and rugby union stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, that was built as part of the country’s hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

The ‘FIFA Quality Programme for Floodlights – FIFA Quality Pro’ is the highest global certification tier for stadium lighting. It ensures the venues deliver exceptional broadcast-quality illumination, optimized player performance and comfortable visual conditions for the spectators during the competitive, professional football matches.

OMNIBLAST Floodlighting Solution

‘cbn.co.za’ further stated that at the heart of this success is the installation of the OMNIBLAST floodlighting solution. Designed to deliver exceptional illumination performance the OMNIBLAST ensures optimal visibility for the players, the officials, the broadcasters, and the spectators alike thus meeting the stringent technical and quality requirements set by FIFA.

The certification process involved rigorous testing to verify the lighting performance, uniformity, glare control, and the overall compliance with the international broadcasting and sporting standards. Achieving FIFA Quality Pro certification confirms that the lighting installation at the DHL Stadium is capable of supporting the top-tier international matches and the televised events.
