The City of Zaragoza, Spain, has been awarded multiyear hosting rights for the EuroLeague Women Final Six.

‘fiba.basketball’ stated that as per the strategic partnership agreement between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Europe and the host club Casademont Zaragoza the latter’s home – the Pabellón Príncipe Felipe in Zaragoza, Spain – will serve as the stage for the crowning event of the competition for the next three years through the 2026-2027 seasons.

The EuroLeague Women (officially known as the FIBA EuroLeague Women) is the pre-eminent basketball league in Europe for the women’s basketball clubs. Unlike the EuroLeague Men, the competition is entirely organized by FIBA Europe.

Mies (Switzerland)-based the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is an association of national organizations which governs the sport of basketball worldwide. FIBA defines the rules of basketball, specifies the equipment and facilities required, organizes international competitions, regulates the transfer of athletes across countries, and controls the appointment of the international referees. A total of 212 national federations are the members organized since 1989 into five zones: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.

The EuroLeague Women is the premier women’s basketball competition in Europe featuring the top 16 teams from the continent and the world’s best players.

The Final Six is a brand-new format for the end-of-the-season tournament where the best teams in the league will face off in a single-elimination format to crown the next champion of Europe.

Munich (Germany)-based FIBA Europe is the administrative body for basketball in Europe within the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) which includes all the 50 national European basketball federations.

Basket Zaragoza 2002 S.A.D., more commonly referred to as Basket Zaragoza and as Casademont Zaragoza for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Zaragoza, Spain. The team plays in the Liga ACB (the top professional basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system) and the FIBA Europe Cup. Their home arena is the Pabellón Príncipe Felipe.

The Pabellón Príncipe Felipe is an arena in Zaragoza, Spain. Opened on April 17th, 1990, the arena holds 10,744 people. It is primarily used for basketball and handball.

Said Jorge Garbajosa, President of FIBA Europe, “We are excited to announce Zaragoza as the Final Six host for the next three seasons. It is a City that loves basketball and is home to some of the most passionate fans in Europe. I would like to extend my gratitude not only to the host club, Casademont Zaragoza, but also to the regional Government of Aragon, the City of Zaragoza and the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB – the governing body of basketball in Spain) for realizing this long-term vision to life.”

Commented Kamil Novak, FIBA Executive Director Europe, “This three-year agreement is the next significant step in the continued development of EuroLeague Women. It allows us to create a stable foundation for the competition’s growth while providing an ideal platform for the stars of the game to showcase their talents to a global audience.”

Zaragoza will enter the history books as the first-ever destination for the EuroLeague Women Final Six which was introduced as part of the competition’s new format.

Remarked Reynaldo Benit, President of Casademont Zaragoza, “Hosting the Final Six in Zaragoza is a collective achievement for all of us who pushed to bring this great event to our territory which will be enjoyed not only by the basketball fans but by everyone who loves the sport and the spectacle. We thank FIBA for the trust placed in the Aragon Government, the City of Zaragoza and Casademont Zaragoza and we hope to repay it with a successful organization of the first edition of the EuroLeague Women’s Final Six.”

‘fiba.basketball’ further stated that the inaugural edition of the Final Six is scheduled to take place from April 9th-13th, 2025.

Four teams will earn direct qualification to the Final Six through the Second Round of the Regular Season with two additional spots up for grabs via the Play-Ins.

The host club, Casademont Zaragoza, made their EuroLeague Women debut in the 2023-2024 seasons and quickly became one of the standout stories of the campaign reaching the Quarter-Finals.

The club was also recognized with the EuroLeague Women Club Excellence Award traditionally given to the club which excels across a range of organizational parameters.
