‘The Benz’ capacity increase on fans’ demand

Mercedes-Benz Stadium increasing capacity to 100 per cent Image: MB Stadium

Come May 15th, the AMB Sports and Entertainment (AMBSE) will increase capacity for events at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (US) to 100 percent for the Major League Soccer (MLS) teams’ fixtures – Atlanta United against CF Montréal. This has been done to cater to the high demand from fans as well as increased access to vaccine distribution, and health and safety protocols in place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The two lower levels, in typical soccer configuration, will be available for the Atlanta United fans.

The ‘Mercedes Benz Stadium’ stated that additionally, the National Football League team Atlanta Falcons are planning for, and intend to be, at full capacity for games at the start of the season in the Fall as per a statement made by the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, that he expects to have packed venues for the NFL season working in concert with the local public health officials.

The 74,295-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium, also known as simply ‘The Benz’, is a multipurpose stadium located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Opened in August 2017 as a replacement for the Georgia Dome, it serves as the home stadium of the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL) and Atlanta United FC of Major League Soccer (MLS).

Atlanta United FC, commonly known as Atlanta United, is an American professional soccer club based in Atlanta, Georgia, that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the League’s Eastern Conference.

The Atlanta Falcons are a professional American football team based in Atlanta. The Falcons compete in the National Football League as a member club of the League’s National Football Conference South division.

Club de Foot Montréal, or simply CF Montréal, is a Canadian professional soccer club based in Montreal, Quebec (Canada). The club competes in Major League Soccer as a member of the Eastern Conference.

The ‘Mercedes Benz Stadium’ quoted Steve Cannon, CEO, AMB Sports and Entertainment, as stating, “We are excited to bring our fans back to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Given the increased opportunity for Georgians to be vaccinated, the abundant health protocols we have in place at the stadium and the interest from our season ticket members, we felt that now is the right time to reopen the stadium in full capacity allowing all our season ticket members a chance to enjoy watching their teams in person. We will continue to follow the necessary precautions to give fans a safe and clean environment.”

Mercedes-Benz Stadium will maintain health and safety protocols presently in place including, mask mandatory for fans, hand sanitization stands throughout the facility, strict cleaning and sanitization before, during and after events, and increased cleaning staff. The AMBSE will continue to work with health organizations and monitor external conditions while following all guidelines and protocols set forth by MLS, the NFL as well as all third-party event organizations.
