The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England (UK) will continue to host its annual marquee fixture – The Showdown – until 2028!

The 2024 Coliseum Summit EUROPE was held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, UK, from March 26th-27th, 2024.

‘SARACENS’ stated that the partnership extension will see The Showdown which has become one of the biggest occasions in London’s sporting calendar played at the largest club stadium in the capital for the next four years.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the home of the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur F.C. in North London (UK) replacing the club’s previous ground, White Hart Lane. With a seating capacity of 62,850, it is the third largest football stadium in England and the largest club ground in London.

The Showdown (previously known as the Derby Day) is the annual showpiece rugby union match hosted by Saracens in Premiership Rugby, the top-flight professional rugby competition in England. Starting in 2009, the event has served as the club’s marquee home fixture during each domestic season, usually against their closest rivals the fellow London club Harlequins. To date, the fixture has taken place at three large-capacity stadiums around the team’s home city of London – the 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium, the 68,013-capacity London Stadium and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – and it has regularly achieved among the biggest crowds in the league since the 2009-2010 seasons.

The Saracens Rugby Club is an English professional rugby union club based in North London, England (UK) currently playing in Premiership Rugby which is the highest level of competition in English rugby. Established in 1876, the club has spent most of its existence in and around Southgate in the London Borough of Enfield. The 10,500-capacity StoneX Stadium in London serves as their home ground.

Taking place the week after the climax of the Guinness Six Nations, The Showdown is the first chance for the supporters to see the world’s biggest stars in club action once they return from international duty.

The Six Nations Championship is an annual international men’s rugby union competition between the teams of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales. It is also the oldest sports tournament ever between the Home Nations. The championship holders are Ireland who won the 2024 tournament.

‘SARACENS’ further stated that it has taken place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since 2022 and this year’s fixture between the London rivals Saracens and Harlequins was staged in front of a packed house in N17 of over 60,000 and also attracted the highest ever average television audience in the history of Premiership Rugby.

The Showdown joins a host of major events hosted at one of the country’s leading sport, leisure and entertainment destinations including football, National Football League (NFL), concerts, and boxing.

The stadium’s ability to stage a wide range of major events all year round directly contributes to the £344m a year boost being delivered to the local economy with 3,700 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs supported as a direct result of major events and visitor attractions. Creating additional recurring sources of revenue to reinvest in its football activities is a key part of the club’s financial model.

Maintained Mark Thompson, Saracens head honcho, “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Tottenham Hotspur for another four years. Our annual match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has become one of the biggest dates of the domestic rugby calendar and it continues to go from strength to strength. Everyone from our players to our fans can’t wait to return next year for Showdown 5!”

Remarked Ryan Norys, Chief Revenue Officer, Tottenham Hotspur, “Hosting ‘The Showdown’ every year is another example of how the biggest and best events in sport and entertainment are coming to London N17. This has a huge, positive impact on our local economy and creates diverse revenue streams for the club to continue investing in its football activities.”

Tickets are now on sale to ‘The Showdown 5’ between Saracens and Harlequins taking place on March 22nd, 2025 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

‘The Showdown’ has been held at Tottenham Hotspur’s world-class stadium since 2022 and has become one of the biggest occasions on London’s sporting calendar.
