At the Extraordinary Assembly of the Costa Rican multisport club – the Club Sport Herediano Sports Association – held on December 6th at the Palacio de los Deportes in Heredia, Costa Rica (country in Central America), the final design of the Club Sport Herediano new home stadium – the Eladio Rosabal Cordero in Heredia – was unveiled – and approval was granted for building a swanky hotel in the Southern Sector which would be integrated into the plush stadium.

The Eladio Rosabal Cordero opening is slated for the second half of 2024 and a grandiose event has been planned for the same.

‘herediano.com’ quoted Jafet Soto, President of Fuerza Herediana, as stating, “We will build the most avant-garde, futuristic and ‘Green’ multiuse stadium in Central America. After bending over backwards to get the go-ahead for building the above planned facility, we hope our venue dreams will come to fruition and the opening of the new facility will be a watershed moment for the people of Heredia.”

The Club Sport Herediano, commonly known as Herediano and nicknamed El Team, is a Costa Rican multisport club based in Heredia, Heredia Province, Costa Rica. Although they compete in several sporting events, Herediano is mostly known for its association football team which plays in the Liga FPD, the top professional association football division in Costa Rica.

The Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero is a multipurpose stadium in Heredia, Costa Rica. The stadium holds 8,700 people and opened in 1951. It is used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Herediano. The stadium is named after the Herediano legend Eladio Rosabal Cordero (Costa Rican footballer) who founded the club in 1921.

However, the Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero has been out of use since 2020. Herediano is presently playing at the 4,500-capacity Estadio José Joaquín ‘Coyella’ Fonseca in San José, Costa Rica.

The top-flight said it decided against redeveloping their present home and instead opted for building a brand-new venue armed with plush facilities and tech bells and whistles.

The new stadium will be called Eladio Rosabal Cordero, but will also be known as the Transcomer Arena. The stadium will have a capacity of 16,000, making it the third largest stadium in Costa Rica. It will also boast a 121-room hotel, commercial space and a subway park.

The current stadium is called Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero.

Fuerza Herediana comprises a group of people who helped Club Sport Herediano come out of the woods and occupy the top slot in Costa Rican football.

The Palacio de los Deportes is an indoor arena with a capacity to hold 7,500 persons and is located in Heredia, Costa Rica. The arena regularly hosts sporting events, concerts and trade shows. It was built in 1989.

‘herediano.com’ further stated that the 121-room hotel will be built by Hammer Hotels SA which boasts vast experience in the development, construction and operation of hotel complexes throughout the world. Fuerza Herediana in tandem with Hammer Hotels SA presented the designs of the planned new venue and the hotel to the functionaries present at the Extraordinary Assembly.

Concluded Randall Castro, President of Club Sport Herediano Association, “Though we had announced plans back in 2019 to build a new stadium for the top-flight but unfortunately the world got caught in the fatal grip of COVID-19 and the plans had to be put on the backburner. Despite the roadblocks, we pulled out all stops and finally the design of the new home of Herediano has been unbolted and the hotel plan has also been greenlighted. We will continue to work through the sweat of our brows to bring this stadium project to fruition.”
