German Telekom named official EURO 2024 partner Image: Telekom and EURO 2024

The German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom has signed a deal with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) which it will become the official national partner for the UEFA EURO 2024 taking place from June 14th to July 14th, 2024 in Germany.

‘Digital TV’ stated that as part of the agreement, the German telco company will provide telecommunications services for the tournament, act as the national sponsor and serve as the media rights and broadcast partner.

Deutsche Telekom AG is a German telecommunications company headquartered in Bonn (Germany) and is the largest telecommunications provider in Europe by revenue. It was formed in 1995 when Deutsche Bundespost, a State monopoly at the time, was privatized.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan, as well as some Asian countries such as Israel, Cyprus and Armenia. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Because of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.

The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA EURO 2024 or simply EURO 2024, will be the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organized by the UEFA for the men’s national teams of its member-associations. It will be held in Germany from June 14th to July 14th, 2024.

‘Digital TV’ further stated that Deutsche Telekom will set up and operate comprehensive information technology (IT) networks (local area network [LAN] and wireless local area network [WLAN]) in the stadiums to ensure smooth TV transmission and communication for media representatives as well as the integration of the EURO 2024 headquarters and its data centers into the overall network.

The agreements also includes a presence on the advertising boards at all games, digital rights on UEFA platforms visible in Germany, use of the UEFA EURO 2024 logo and activation rights in the fan zones and Host Cities, where Deutsche Telekom broadcasts all games via MagentaTV on the official public-viewing areas will show.

In addition to acquiring the media rights to broadcast all 51 EURO games on Deutsche Telekom’s platform MagentaTV, it will broadcast four group games and one Round of 16 in Germany exclusively on MagentaTV.

MagentaTV combines classic television, media and video libraries, streaming services and exclusive content on one platform. Features like time shift, restart and seven-day replay provide unparalleled convenience. MagentaTV can be added anywhere in Germany regardless of the Internet provider.

Remarked Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA Marketing Director, “The UEFA is delighted to welcome Deutsche Telekom to the family of commercial partners for UEFA EURO 2024. This novel three-pronged partnership underscores UEFA and Deutsche Telekom’s shared goal of connecting fans across Germany more closely during the four-week tournament. We look forward to working with Deutsche Telekom towards a successful UEFA EURO 2024.”

Maintained Michael Hagspihl, Deutsche Telekom’s Senior Vice-President (SVP) to Global Strategic Projects and Marketing Partnerships, “We are delighted to announce these special three-pronged partnerships with the UEFA for UEFA EURO 2024 in our country, which will be the most thrilling EURO to date.
