The World Endurance Championship 2026 will be hosted by Saudi Arabia, according to an announcement made by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) recently.

‘Saudi Press Agency’ stated that the Kingdom submitted its hosting bid in September and the event will be held in the Al-Ula Governorate under the supervision of the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation and the Royal Commission for AlUla.

The World Endurance Championship is an equestrian event that tests a rider’s ability to use pace, knowledge of their horse’s capabilities and ability to cross different types of terrain. The goal of the championship is to cover the track without harming the horse.

The World Endurance Championship 2026 will take place in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia on October 17th, 2026.

The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) is the international governing body of equestrian sports. The FEI headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. The FEI is responsible for drafting and enforcing regulations within the six disciplines under its jurisdiction. The six disciplines are – Dressage and Para Dressage, Driving and Para Driving, Endurance, Eventing, Jumping, and Vaulting.

The Royal Commission for Governorate of Al-Ula (Saudi Arabia) is an agency that focuses on development plans for infrastructure and tourism facilities.

Riyadh (Saudi Arabia)-based the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation (SAEF) manages equestrian activities in Saudi Arabia. The SAEF also creates rules and regulations for equestrian sports in Saudi Arabia. These rules are based on international standards.

The Royal Commission for Al-‘Ula is a Saudi commission which was established in July 2017 to preserve and develop the 2,000-year-old archaeological and historical site of Al-‘Ula in North-western Saudi Arabia.

‘Saudi Press Agency’ further stated that the International Equestrian Federation and the members of the General Assembly praised the Federation for its efforts. The Kingdom’s hosting of the World Endurance Championship is yet another success for Saudi equestrianism, which has previously hosted major events.

Furthermore, the Horseback Archery World Cup will be held in the Governorate of Al-Ula Governorate next December, while the World Cup for Show Jumping and Dressage will be hosted in Riyadh in April 2024.
