Leipzig Bundesliga with fans in tow?

All football fans have been waiting with bated breath for this piece of news! Once Bundesliga starts again on September 18^th, spectators will be greeted back to the stadium fold – at least in Leipzig, Germany.

The Bundesliga is a professional association football league in Germany. At the top of the German football league system, the Bundesliga is Germany’s primary football competition.

Media reports stated that the Health Department of the City of Leipzig has given the green light to open the Red Bull Arena for the opening game against German sports club Mainz (September 20^th ) for around 8,400 fans. That corresponds to 20 percent of the capacity.

The Red Bull Arena is a football facility located in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany. It is the largest football stadium in the former East Germany and has also played host to music concerts as well as football.

Tickets for the game will be raffled among the 22,500 season ticket holders – no tickets will be available for free sale. Only visitors residing in Saxony are allowed to do this.

Media reports also stated that the nod is dependent on the current infection rate in the large Saxony City (around 600,000 inhabitants). The seven-day incidence (cases per 100,000 inhabitants within one week) in Leipzig is currently 3.2 (as of September 1^st, according to the Robert Koch Institute). If the value remains below 20, nothing can stop the Bundesliga from starting with fans in tow.

The Robert Koch Institute (public health institute in Germany) is continuously monitoring the coronavirus situation, evaluating all available information, estimating the risk for the population in Germany and providing health professionals with recommendations.

Hertha, Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt also want to partially fill their venues with supporters and are also in talks with the responsible health authorities.
