India is all set to build a new 22,000-seat cricket stadium in the Maldives under an $800m (£620m/€681m) Line of Credit (LoC) extended to the island nation.

The High Commission of India in Maldives tweeted that the new facility, which would be located in Hulhumalé, will feature the “latest technology”. No timeline for the project has been outlined.

A 100-bed cancer hospital will also be set up in Hulhumalé under India’s LoC agreement with the Maldives.

The High Commission of India in Maldives has teamed up with the Housing Development Corporation Limited, a Government-owned company that is overseeing the development and management of Hulhumalé (Maldives). The two parties will work to develop a central park complex and renovate Hulhumalé’s arrival jetty.

The Housing Development Corporation Limited is a master developer, builder and regulator for the development of Hulhumalé, a planned City situated in the capital region.

The High Commission of India in Maldives further tweeted that the park would host leisure and fitness activities, while the jetty will go on to benefit visitors and residents alike.

The $800m LoC was extended to the Maldives by Exim Bank last March. The LoC is designed to fund development projects in the country.

The project will build on the already close bilateral cooperation in the health sector and include a robust component of human resource development.

Recently, Maldives’ Housing Development Corporation Limited Chairman Mohamed Jaish Ibrahim met with High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, Sunjay Sudhir, to discuss prospective opportunities of developments in Hulhumalé.
